It isn't insurance, so if you want insurance for your trip buy it.

You just don't know when those serious accidents happen and it could be you.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I will almost certainly get the insurance but £32 for 2.5 days in Paris seems a lot. Problem is I take pills for high blood pressure and cholesterol but have no other problems.

Aynone who travels abroad without insurance deserves everything they get-surely it it worth a few pounds for peace of mind?

    That's pretty harsh.

It's all about risk assessment and an individual's comfort level with that risk (both emotionally and financially). I usually have an annual policy but I allow it to lapse unless I have a big trip in the offingm, so I quite often travel for a day or two with only an EHIC for company and my mind is perfectly at peace because the chances of needing expensive care are pretty slim and I can afford to pay my contribution if the worst happens.

So you can afford an air ambulance then, how much have you budgeted for one?

None, apart from a few euros for ready cash. I will use my Nationwide credit card for everything I can and if I need more cash, I will use the debit card. Got to make the most of them before they start charging for use in a couple of months' time!

I always get insurance when I go abroad. Tend to pay about a tenner from the Post Office just for the peace of mind.

  • I must say that Travel Insurance has saved me on a few occasions. I had my hire car, passport, keys etc stolen one holiday. It was only a short trip, but without insurance I'd have been screwed.

Have you shopped around fully for insurance? Done some comparisons? Remember to get your insurance through quidco too for cashback.

I read they are only charging outside the EU. Do you know different?
