  • What guarantee have you got that you could sell your house in 6 months? Just because the house has been rented on a 6 month AST doesn't mean the tenants will leave after 6 months, also no guarantee the landlord/vendor will want them to. How does the neighbour know so much about it?! The agent should under no circumstances give you the number as it violates data protection laws.
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.
  • You should be able to get the vendor to pass on an offer anyway, even if the property is currently off the market. It's in the agents interest, afterall. They get fees if it sells.

Do you know which agent rented the house out? You could always write the owner a letter and ask the letting agent to pass it on?

You could always write to them at their address. If they've got any sense they'll have a mail redirect on.

We've had our eye on a house for ages but because the price is right at the top of our budget and we've been pre-occupied with our first baby, we've not had the chance til now to prepare a serious offer for this house.

The problem is, just last week the details of the house disappeared from Rightmove. I phoned the agents and they said the house had been rented.

I spoke to the neighbour of the house we want to see if I could get the vendor's number but they didn't have it. They did know that the house was on a short term rental agreement, I'm guessing 6 months - which would give us enough time to sell our house and be in a position to complete. We don't need a mortgage.

Basically I need to get hold of the vendor to see whether they would be interested in selling to us, but how do I get the number from the agent?

If they have rented out, then chances are they have done so because they think it's better to hang on to it and sell it in the future when prices have recovered (partly or in full)

No according to the neighbour they've been desperate to sell it for ages - I think rental is a temporary solution for them.

    Best advice so far.

If that fails go in person to the EA office. When they have the file open memorise the phone number. If you can't read upside down, have a sneezing fit, wait until the EA rushes off to locate a box of tissues and take a peek at the file.

I suggest the old cleavage distraction trick, assuming the EA is young (or indeed, old) and male. Worked for Benny Hill.

Can I nominate this for bizzare thread title of the week?

You need to know the surname name of seller for this to work.

Why? An envelope addressed to the owner should do the trick.
