  • just wanted to offer my wishes too, if you do lose your job you will have the satisfaction of going out fighting. Who knows what you say may make the organisation have another look at your boss. Also if you being made redundant you are entitled to time off to look for another job and attend interviews. I was made redundant several years ago and did just that. Lots of them !! Best wishes

Hi all, we've been following Juicy's story with interest. DH was in a similar position a couple of years ago. Drag this out for as long as possible.
Question everything and ask for it in writing. They want you to sign
on the dotted line and get you out as soon as possible. If they ask you to sign anything, tell them you would like to take it home to get it checked over.

You probably will be going but don't make it easy for them.
Remember, your health and well-being plus peace of mind
    are the most important things.

DH was talking about this thread to his friends who have all been through redundancy. They all lead their managers a merry dance and enjoyed the
    ride.:rotfl:
You are doing well, best of luck, you are now famous in Scotland:rotfl:

    Hi everyone

Just to let you know I lost my job today :o( I don't know why I'm putting a sad face really because I'm over my tears and I actually feel a lot happier now. I've given them a lot to think about now and I went into a lot of detail about my grievance. People are now talking about it and I've had a lot of support from colleagues. I've also found out a lot more about my Manager that I never knew before and you know what? I really really really am best off out of there. From what they've told me today there is no way they will even last. They have reserves to keep them going for another 6-12 months and are banking on a big cheque arriving to keep them afloat.

They apologised to me again and said they are going to investigate. I just said sorry doesn't really cut it when I'm losing my job and they couldn't reply!! They've gone about this the wrong way, they've got people there who do not even have enough work to keep them going for a day and pay them more than me!!

They were definitely shocked by what I said, they had no idea it was coming. They've already apologised because they know that what I've told them I couldn't possibly know unless my Manager had told me and the other girl in there is prepared to tell them all she knows. It turns out she knows a bit more than me as well! At the end of the day my Manager got away with a lot but now I'm going why should I sit back? She'll only do it again. I also know she has been disciplined for this before and lots of people have issues with her.

I don't know my leaving date yet, they said they haven't even discussed it. They are writing to me to give me a month's notice and to explain everything, then we will have another meeting and several more before I go.

    So that's it!

I'm now going to register my CV with as many agencies as possible. If anyone has any job tips let me know! I hate interviews and I'm dreading that bit now!! It's just worry after worry with me!

I'd just like to thank everyone for all the support. I've not used forums before but it's so nice to see that people really do care.

If anyone knows of any jobs in the Middlesex area let me know!

I'm sure one day juicy you'll look back on this and realise it's probably the best thing that's happened to you, probably not right now but in time hopefully it will. If it was my company I'd be replacing that manager and I'd give you her position, but by what your saying they probably wont be there too much longer anyway. I'm sure something good will come from all this in the end for you, so keep your head up Girl.

    Thank you, I agree!

Even now I can see it's for the best. I know too much of what is really going on in there as well and even if I had stayed I would have had to look for another job.

They really didn't know what to say when I read out what I knew about other employees. I know for a fact that the other woman knew about my situation before I did and they said they are so very sorry for me.

I told them it would have been helpful to have a redundancy policy and I've noticed they do not follow their Equal Opportunities policy!

I am going to be moved out of my office for now and working next door until I leave. That suits me!

I just hope they will take it seriously, there really is no authority in that place, the Managers are too 'clicky' with their teams and it's causing a lot of problems.

Anyway I've done my bit now, just need a new job!

Toots has said it all really.

Think of the redundancy as a new beginning, at first I was kind of upset more shocked than anything when it happened to me but now I am really pleased that it happened because for the first time I am doing what I want to do and I don't have anyone bossing me about either because I work for myself:j

The tip with interviews is to sit forward in your chair, look them in the eye and dont cross your arms try and be open. When you get a job description go through it bit by bit - note down on the description or on a piece of paper where your skills fit and even if you haven't necessarily got the qualifications they are looking for but have the experience note that down and give examples. This will help you when you come to fill in the application form.

Good luck and I hope you find a job soon. Remember that whilst you are under this redundancy your employer has to let you have time to find a job - so you can sit at the desk all day and do that, and they must let you have time off for interviews.

    Hello!

Thanks for the tips. I hate interviews and get so so nervous. I felt really sick today but it was handy having a work colleague with me. She said I need to feel proud of myself because I stood up to them and definitely gave them food for thought.

I'm going back into work on Monday and I should receive my letter inviting me to another meeting to go through the dismissal procedure.

I'm definitely going to use the time to my advantage. What gets me is that they said they need me to come into work during my month's notice because I've got a lot of work to do!!!!!!

They did explain the reasons why they've selected me for redundancy so I don't think I can appeal really? The only thing that ACAS said I have is the fact my Manager made it clear it was a done deal but how am I going to prove that? I'd rather walk away now.

There are so many things in my role that other people don't know I do, they'll soon find out though! Oh well!

I've been job hunting tonight and found a few positions I could apply for so hopefully I will get somewhere.

Good luck to everyone else who is going through the same as me, it's hard but I'm already starting to feel so much better.

Interestingly I've been in organisations where this has happened twice - on both occassions the pusher left under a cloud within a year and the person leaving has got a better package than if it had been done in a more clever way...

Good Luck Juicy. Make sure you get them to write you a refernce ASAP. Then once you have that in your hands you can request your time off etc for interviews - it also means you can treat the manager with the contempt she sounds like she deserves! I would still be tempted to get a free half hour session with a solicitor to explain things properly and see if there are grounds for unfair dismissal - you may not think it, as I am sure they will have done a good sales job on you, but don't write off the possibility.
