Leeds/Bradford to Heathrow and back.

Good, a quicker, but more expensive, route from Heathrow to King's Cross is to get the Heathrow Express to Paddington and then a Black cab from Paddington to King's Cross for the train to Leeds.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Heathrow connect £6.90 each
One per hour on Sunday Journey time 22 mins
Cab to KX Cost £10
Time 10 mins
So total cost of £25 and journey time of 30 mins IF you can catch the ONE train!
Tube cost £4.00 each cash. £2.20 with Oyster Card. Journey time 1hr
Total cost £8.00 Lots of trains leave LHR
Be aware of Engineering works on Sunday though, both on the tube and the Railway.0 -
Did they only offer you a refund not a transfer?
Would you not book on the LHR- MAN service, no way you could get a family memeber to pick you up from MAN airport?
Id much rather be on the LHR- MAN service, IMO much more convient plus sundays with the trains. bmi flights are reasonbly priced too- prob less than the £75 each you were offered
Hope you manage to get it sorted.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥0 -
Although the tube sounds daunting Sunday morning would be a very good time to use it as the main problem is overcrowding. At that time the tube will be half-full at most. The drawback with the train from London to Leeds or Doncaster is that you need to choose a particular train to get a cheap fare. But even a flexible fare with a senior railcard should come to less than £75 each.0

In that case I think you'll be perfectly ok. Don't go for the Heathrow Express/Connect route into Paddington - it's far too much hassle - but use the Piccadilly Line tube version we suggested above that goes direct to King's Cross. Sundays can be a pain for train travel but much less with the East Coast route than with many others, so odds are you'll be ok. If you book in advance (using the nxec site as described above; remember to use 'Heathrow Underground' as the origin station) you should be able to get an advance ticket for less than £20 each, and the ticket will include the tube fare so there's no need to faff around with oyster cards. To be safe though (in case of delay) it's best to book to leave Heathrow a couple of hours after you're scheduled to land - if you're early you can always have a coffee with some of the money you've saved.0 -

Have you actually travelled from Heathrow to Central London on the Piccadilly line?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Yes they offered a refund not a transfer. It seems that the phone lines may be routed through India or somewhere as everyone my friend spoke to seemed to have English as a second language
Manchester would not be our first choice, though better than nothing I suppose. Does anyone know if there would be flights from LH to Doncaster airport?
Thanks for all the info about trains etc - the only thing with that really is that our baggage will be heavy and you don't have a lot of choice but lug it about yourself on a train (am I right in thinking that there's unlikely to be anything as old-fashioned as a porter these days?)
I'm truly grateful for everyone's input.....at least it's giving us ideas instead of both of us sitting and floundering.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
There aren't any flights from LHR to Doncaster airport, Manchester is probably nearest to Leeds.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

You could always get the National Coach from LHR Central Station to Leeds.
It takes 5 hrs and would cost the two of you £76.00 in total. :eek:0
