totally agree with other posters stay well away from KwiK FiT.
had them put 4 new tyres on a car years ago. very next day I was losing brake fluid. I checked car over and found a bleed nipple on front brake caliper was opened slightly. Later that night the clutch failed. both parts that kwik fit repair. Done my own brakes since then I know whats been done and what parts are used. I also have found a good local independent garage.
I would suggest that you buy a Haynes manual. there are a lot of jobs that really you could probably do yourself. send others to an independent garage
Once you have found a good one.0 -
Thanks guys, will definitely stay away from Kwik Fit!0

Quick query, I probably will go for OEM parts, are they generally all good quality or should I look for particular brands?, I really have no idea of what makes are good for brakes.0

Just pay attention to what they do and don't do as some only deal in say jaguars rather then all cars.0 -
As said previously, before you start spending money, you need the ensure they need replacing. Whilst Honda dealers have a decent reputation, their business is very quiet and maybe are trying to drum up some business ( pun intended!)
If your cars only done 30k miles and most have been on the motorway i cant see how they can be 90% worn. Go to a few independent garages and see what they say, it does not take long to take of one front and one rear tyre and check the disks and pads.
Btw if they are saying all 4 disks are 90% worn i would start to smell something fishy, as the front discs and pads do most of the braking, the rears do very little, so how can they all be equally worn. What they are saying is not right.0 -
I have an 06 Accord cdti and either they eat disk or as someone said, and may be right dealers are trying to keep going with hiked up servicing.
But, my car is 62K miles and has recently had its second set of front discs due to wear. I was shocked when they needed replacing the 1st time around 28K as although I am VERY heavy on them I am used to them lasting the life of the car. Supposedly they are much thinner now (especially in Accord which is actually relatively light) to save weight and pad material now causes a lot more wear.
This time the dealer wanted to replace all 4 but when I objected they said "oh OK well its mainly just the fronts, back will be OK!" without any protest, as if they didn't want to push their luck!
Fortunately its not my money as company pays all the bills so I tend to have things done anyway to save me hassle! This is at a main Honda dealer.
Finally I had new pads all round, new disks up front, a 60K Service, wiper blades etc for £512 inc VAT so your dealer is having a laugh!0 -
Yep I am going to take it to someone independent I know and trust and ask him if I need the discs, if I do then I'm sure most brands should be ok.
I Should mention I'm the second owner, I brought it when it had 15k miles, maybe the previous owner was a bit lively on the brakes, soon find out!.0 -

OK so everyone hates them but I have never had a problem with them.
However, I got my car serviced yesterday by my local Ford dealer who told me I needed new rear brake pads as they were down to the metal and that the discs were 99% worn and lipped. The pads and discs were last changed 25 000 miles ago (at 50 000 miles) so I told him I wanted a second opinion.
took it to kwikfit who have inspected the brakes today and advised that neither pads nor discs need changing. He showed me the measurements he had taken for both and compared with Ford specs he advised the pads could last another 10-15 000 miles and the discs are 70% worn. He also took me out to the car and showed me the discs to explain what the lipping was.
there was no charge for this from Kwikfit and very helpful/informative staff unlike Ford dealer I must say.0 -

My wifes Honda Jazz is 3 years old (<25K miles) and went to a Honda stealer for its first MOT today and also a service. Pads are 80% and 85% worn and needed to be changed according to them. As far as I understand it, standard service (including spark plugs), MOT and brake pads. 'How much? I ask the wife.....£749!! I nearly collapsed and needed oxygen! Until I see an invoice I dont know exactly what has been done, but surely that is daylight robbery!0
