Me Again! trying to delete file in xp

Why is this happening?? Trying to delete a file in XP . I have now followed the windows instructions to re boot in safe mode right click on the folder etc etc to take ownership of the file. Still comes up with error code 996 :rolleyes:. Really need to delete it to increase space on drive. Can anyone help me please........

Please can you give the name of the file, and the name of the folder that it's in!

It sounds as if this file is in use and that's why it can't be deleted. You need to let us know what the file is so that we can determine the process that needs to be stopped before deletion.

I have to ask what it is your trying to delete cos if it SHOULDNT be deleted, you could end up killing your computer!

Just another question cos I'm not great at this. Looks as if I only have 6% space when I try to defragment.. I have deleted programme files which I'm not using from add or delete and also any personal files. Temp files etc. Just can't see where the problem is..any ideas where files could be lurking as I don't want to delete anything important?
