ScottishPower has just announced reductions in its gas and electricity prices, which will be effective from 31st March 2009. Domestic standard rate gas bills will go down on average by 7.5% and electricity bills on average by 3%.

  • Good timing I've just filled a form in to switch from them. Couldn't see them being any different to the other suppliers somehow.

When i looked on the website the reduction was shown based on their standard tarif. Does that mean there won't be any reductions on other tarifs?

Only Fixed Price tariffs will remain unchanged. Standard, Capped and Prepayment will reduce in price

Hmmm... the Scottish Power prices effective March 31st, 2009 are available here:

    http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/pricing_pdfs/general.pdf

When I look at Eastern region, standard package (i.e pay quarterly), E7 (edit: and non E7), no-standing charge, I see the prices haven't changed at all.

When I look at Yorkshire region, pay monthly by DD, E7, standing charge, I see the prices haven't changed at all.

Anyone with Scottish Power should check their planned prices to see if they will be getting any reduction.

Current prices (i.e. those effective from September 2008) are available to download here:

  • Not impressed with that Scottish Power no price change. Am I right in thinking if there is no price change there is no letter to inform the consumer who might be expecting to know the new price before switching?

A barrier to switching on a low income is receiving the final bill especially in winter for quarterly billing. This keeps them 'locked in' a bit longer on an uncompetitve tariff. The fact that they have made greater cuts on the gas rather than the electricity also keeps bills higher in the summer months.

Looks like no change for economy 7 people (only looked at dd options). And for me if I was with scottish power elec would be down 1% and gas down 7%.

Just checked their web site for up to date prices(From the end of this month) and guess what.

Daily Charge - The Same At 28.05ppd
Heating Electric - The Same At 5.452ppu

    Ta dah -

Domestic Electric - Reduced from 12.094ppu to 11.858ppu

Must admit to being completely underwhelmed with a less than 2% reduction on only one part of my bill.

    Gee thanks scotttish power.

This is probably all my fault, TBH, as I've just realised this bunch of jokers have actually paid me over £200 in cashback in the last 15 months. ;) Many apologies. :p
