Libra Ive been thinking the same thing as you that it might be to do with it Windows Vista. Another problem that I get all the time regardless of what browser I use whether its IE or Firefox is that often when I am just surfing the net everything just slows right down and I get the "Not Responding" msg at the top of the window. This seems to happen constantly.

Also when I'm typing an email I suddenly cant type any more as the cursor loses its place, although it doesnt freeze as such like the other problem, but will jump about and when I click on the place I'm supposed to be it just wont work. This can happen several times in one go. Its been happening again now whilst I was typing this message....argh so frustrating! Were you getting any of those problems too?? I really think its Vista as I didnt have these problems with my previous PC which was Windows 98!

Did you just uninstall all of your programs and them reinstall them? And you have found that that has helped? froufroufox

The problems with my PC were that when clicking between several pages it was as though the programme couldn't handle it! It continually kept 'freezing' and I had to press Cntrl, Alt, Delete to bring up the Task Manager, and close everything down. This became very frustrating, as you can imagine. I only use Internet Explorer, (Version 7, I think).

My laptop is about a year old now with 1 gig memory, which I know, is the minimum requirement for Vista.

I haven't experienced the problems with typing emails that you mentioned.

I had never experienced any problems with my previous programme, Windows XP. It ran like a little dream, no problems whatsoever.

With Vista - I do all the maintenance regularly, clearing everything, defragging, scan disc - the works, and am careful about anti virus. I don't know about all the Vista hype - The Wow Factor! It's not!

To reinstall, I used my 3 recovery discs which I made when I first used the machine. It's pretty straightforward to do, a bit scary, but everything did what it was supposed to do, and I was pretty soon back online.

The good news is that reinstalling worked. My PC hasn't crashed since yesterday when I reinstalled.

    Good luck
  • You could try unplugging and replugging the disk cable for the C drive (boot) disk. It could just be a poor connection. I've had a similar problem with Internet Explorer freezing. Sometimes the PC won't boot and reports 'no disk' for the C drive. I suspect it may be caused when the room gets very cold.

  • Alienrik thanx again for all the info and links, you've been really helpful!

Superantispyware actually found 460 threats!! So they have now been quarantined.

Ive done the cleaner scan and just completed the registry scan tho its not asking me to backup the registry, how do I do that? Also do I need to click on 'Fix selected issues'?

    Cheers
  • Hi Libra10, I have that same problem too when switching between pages!! I agree its like it just cant cope! Very frustrating I know, I totally empathise!!

Anyway yes it just shows that Vista is not all that its cracked up to be!! I was warned that there might be problems but thought I'd take a risk with it anyway.

Glad to hear that the reinstall went smoothly anyway and you're not having any more problems now.

Thnx for your msg LSEdwards, thats interesting re the temperature. I will try that if I'm still having problems after all this cleaning I'm doing! :)

Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

the 2 are diff scans. Just click to FIX them and follow any instructions it may popup

froufroufox, thanks for your comments. If reinstalling Vista had failed to work, the next step was adding additional memory. Plan B was buying a new programme of XP and going back to something which worked, and Plan C waiting to see what the new Windows programme is going to be like.

So far, so good - no crashes since reinstallation.

Hope some of the brilliant advice given above helps to get you back on track.

    Good luck
