Problem with Screen Freezing

HI,

I have a problem with my computer..often when i switch it on and its up and running everything freezes on the screen, including the cursor. It can often take an hour or two to unfreeze so I end up just switching it off and on again at the plug as I dont want to wait that long! This can sometimes happen up to 4 times in any one day and is very frustrating! Any ideas what could be causing this? Its seemed to happen a lot more recently, though its happens throughout the yr, could the cold weather have anything to do with it?

UPDATE and PERFORM COMPLETE SCAN

Uninstall all toolbars you dont need (Yahoo, Ask etc)
Personally I only use GOOGLE toolbar

Once its found to be clean you need to turn on AUTOMATIC UPDATES
Goto WINDOWS UPDATE and download and install SERVICE PACK 1 (Security updates and OS fixes)

Hi alienrik, thanks v much for your reply. Do I fix them by just clicking on "Fix checked"? Can I fix multiple items at the same time or do I have to do them one by one?

I already have malwarebytes so will do another scan and will download superantispyware too. Cheers :-)

Make sure Malwarebytes is UPDATED before you run the FULL scan

Hello,
I have come across this problem with computers before and it usually turns out to be a faulty (failing) hard disk. It would be a good idea to backup your files, just in case the drive goes.

My PC had been 'freezing' continually and I blamed in on Vista.

Reinstalled the programs yesterday, and so far, so good.

Thanks again everyone for your replies! I have the results from the Malawarebytes scan below and it looks like everything is ok. I am just scanning again now with Superantispyware.

Thanx very much for your replies mazz1953 & libra10. Thats interesting that it could be to do with the hard disk failing tho I would be surprised if it was that as my computer is only just under 2 yrs old and Ive had this problem for a while but who knows.

Libra Ive been thinking the same thing as you that it might be to do with it Windows Vista. Another problem that I get all the time regardless of what browser I use whether its IE or Firefox is that often when I am just surfing the net everything just slows right down and I get the "Not Responding" msg at the top of the window. This seems to happen constantly.

Also when I'm typing an email I suddenly cant type any more as the cursor loses its place, although it doesnt freeze as such like the other problem, but will jump about and when I click on the place I'm supposed to be it just wont work. This can happen several times in one go. Its been happening again now whilst I was typing this message....argh so frustrating! Were you getting any of those problems too?? I really think its Vista as I didnt have these problems with my previous PC which was Windows 98!

Did you just uninstall all of your programs and them reinstall them? And you have found that that has helped?
