    Excellent, so far so good.
    will do those others too.
It's jus that reading the "wot security do you use?" thread leaves one feeling a tad vulnerable and underprotected, despite ISP's assurances that they give us evrythin we need!
btw, shud windows firewalls be on or off?

You never answered if NORTON is upto date or not. if it ISNT ~ it needs removing and a replacement putting on

In answer to windows firewall ~ OFF as Norton has its own (Assuming you have the full suite)

    f.a.o. Alienrik or whoever,
I think I might have 2 different Norton packages of some description as I think I bought one with the laptop 2-ish years ago ( which would obviously be out of date now as I did not subscribe to it ), and there's the one that comes with BT broadband, which I assumed would be up to date.
Anyhow, Norton-wise this is wot it says is on here, and they all seem to be tied in with the broadband package:-

"BT Yahoo Online Protection" incl Norton Antispyware(yellow triangle "scan reqd"), Norton Antivirus(on, yellow triangle), Norton Personal Firewall(on, green tick), Parental Controls (off), mail protection (green tick)
The above version says Version 2.5.0 2007.08.28.11 and all the sub-elements are versions "2007".something as well, so that doesn't look good date-wise does it!

The other one says "Norton Protection Centre", but has another tab that says "Norton Security Online provided by BT Yahoo online protection", and in "about" says that its version 10.2.0.30, which sounds a bit more up to date when compared with the other one, but has no actual date on it.

The taskbar icons for the above seem to contradict themselves:-
The "Norton Protection Centre" is a yellow circle with a green tick which currently says "secure" when maximised, whilst right next to it is the "BT Yahoo online protection" one which is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark which says "one or more items requiring attention".

Hope somebody can see what's going on here!

HJT, MBAM & SAS logs to follow....!

SuperAntiSpyware found 900-odd cookies (which i 'd always assumed were a necessary evil, and applied "ignore" every time Norton scan came across them, and it was only ever 1 or 2!), and 81 "Trace.known threat sources"
so I askd it to quarantine the lot.

Malwarebytes has dealt with the one it found

this will remove all traces of Nortons

    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

then just install the new BT McAfee package ( they no longer use Nortons)

    Jumbly ~
Your only on SERVICE PACK 2
You NEED to be on service pack 3 (Security updates and microsoft fixes)
Goto START and WINDOWS UPDATE, CUSTOM and find 'service pack 3' and download and install it (After Nortons gone though)

Im not so sure about Browntoas advice of installing Mcafee mind. But we'll see how you get on with it anyways
