When we were looking we saw this house. We would have gone and viewed it but it went SSTC within a week or two of comming on the market. I've lived on a canal tow path before and loved it, except the rats, big as cats, they were.
Have you ever seen Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Wererabbit.

There is a scene in the church where the whole town is there and some bloke says "Snails the size of pigs". I just have this image of you saying that last sentence like he does!

    Anyways, as you were.....

For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!

I can't understand how the EAs have the cheek to describe it as "3 bedroom detached house for sale" when it seems to have only 2 bedrooms?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It says off road parking, but I'm wondering how far that might be from the cottage...

    Lovely place....

I cycle past this cottage nearly every week on my way to work. It's lovely, but REALLY run down. It's rotten and needs completely and utterly gutting.

But would make a great project.

But yes, it is sold, otherwise I would probably have bought it myself.

It's not near a major road, contrary to what someone said on here (the London Road it is next to is actually fairly quiet as it has been by-passed) but you would probably want to think about having it as an upside down house (i.e. bedrooms on the ground floor) because you will get a fair amount of people wandering past in the summer. However it is on one of the quieter sections, not so popular with walkers.

The railway line might bother some, but it wouldn't me. The trains don't run all night.

I used to dream of this place http://www.cowroastcottage.co.uk/ which is about 3 miles up the canal, but unfortunately a developer has got his mitts on it and done it up on the cheap. Have been to have a nosey at it and was really disapppointed by it :(

I would LOVE to live by a canal, I love them.

    Lovely place....

It's right next to it - it has a massive garden.

Through knowing the area quite well, and from having a quick glance at the local council's website, the house is in the Green Belt, so only limited extensions will be allowed. I wouldn't say it has quite the redevelopment potential the estate agent seems to think it has! It's sited next to a lock on the Grand Union Canal and although the railway line is the other side of the canal and separated by a belt of trees, it is the main line connecting London to Milton Keynes and the Midlands, so is quite a busy line with about 5 or 6 tracks! Nice old lock keepers cottage though!

Nah, it's "only" 4 lines on that track, although it is busy, it is actually not too noisy there as there is a small strip of woodland between the railway and canal.

Also although it is greenbelt, I think there is scope for extending this property to incorporate the footprint of the outbuilding. Also there is a brand new house almost directly opposite, so I think sensitive development of this cottage could be an option. You could at the least extend the top floor to fill the footprint of the ground floor.
