I LOVE living next to a canal. The day we saw this house my OH had a whole conversation with me and I didn't hear a word - I was off in dreamland.

It's lovely sitting out in the summer, with the canal boats drifting past, with the veg growing quietly behind us 'Is that Sweetcorn...aye...thought so - what a lovely bush...why thanks'

That is...when we have a summer...I'm out there in a bit for my morning coffee. Lovely.

It's poky, and with a major road 100m away, a 4 track railway 50m in the other direction and crowds of weekend leisure users on the towpath every weekend, it would be hell on Earth for me. Decentish garden, though.
  • Also in the summer there won't be much privacy at the front because people will be on the lockside getting their hired narrow boats through the lock and sometimes there will be boats queuing on either side to go through. People knocking on the front door asking to use the loo?

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

I'm a litte confused by the pictures - is it a 2 floor or single floor property?

It's on the Grand Union canal which is very, very popular.

And there's a HUGE basin nearby - not sure where, but you can see it from the train line .... somewhere beginning with W, i think. Wolverton?

Having said that, if the frontage allows and subject to PP .... a tea garden could be a little goldmine :D

Seems to be on sloping ground, higher towards the canal at the front, so the front looks single storey and the rear is two storey.

There are only two pictures of the interior. Assume it's going to need a LOT of decorating. :)

Have you asked about insurance premiums?

I am registered with Floodline Warnings Direct and will get text messages.

Ooohhh!!! So many replies! All very interesting and informative.

I did say in my opening post though that I was only "browsing and dreaming", so not a real proposition for us but enjoyable browsing nonetheless.

    Thanks all.

When we were looking we saw this house. We would have gone and viewed it but it went SSTC within a week or two of comming on the market. I've lived on a canal tow path before and loved it, except the rats, big as cats, they were.
