Subsidy Code

I recently bought a PAYG phone to go with my new O2 sim card. As it is a couple of days before my old contract expires I decided to try my BT Mobile sim in the new phone. I got a message asking for the Subsidy code?

Does this mean that the phone is locked to O2 or is this something different?

It is not a great problem anyway because as of Friday the old sim will be switched off.

Just curious though!

It is a Motorola L6. Is that a cable unlock?

  • Worse than a cable unlock. Its a testpoint unlock. With smart moto. http://www.smart-clip.com/testpoints/L6.php

The testpoint is hidden under a metal cage which has to be removed (invatidating warranty).

The reason is that cable unlocking does not support the new bootloader software and has to be downgraded to a software version that has been cracked. Eventually the new bootloader will also be cracked allowing cable unlocking without this hassle.

Taking it to a shop expect to pay £15+ if they can do it.

Thanks for the info but I'll stick with O2 for a while to see how it goes!
