I always check Rightmove, because I use Property Bee - then I can see all the changes. Very useful add-on.
  • Wouldn't use Slater Hogg as they only advertise on their own website and rightmove. Use a solicitor as you will then get coverage on s1homes and ESPC if you wish. Slater Hogg are more expensive too

I live in Dundee and have seen a few properties advertised by Remax and their descriptions of where in the city they are actually are, are often way off by several miles. Like this one which is about 2.5miles away approximately. But hey there is a great butcher local to it (I recommend it and a 24 hours Asda is not too far away if you run out of a pint of milk, or bread.)

Well, the first link you gave leads to a Rightmove page, which has "Map and local area information" on the RHS - is it this map you're referring to as being off the mark? If so, isn't this Rightmove's fault?

...and the second one's a Rightmove page too - tell me if I'm missing something, but it's not Remax's website; it's a portal, and the map on the Rightmove page leads to a site called aboutmyplace.

The map on the 'real' Remax webpage shows the property as being south of Kingsway, whereas the aboutmyplace one shows it to the north. I don't know which is correct, but I'd guess it's not the one on rightmove/aboutmyplace ....

    Try here;

    only on s1homes? See here

    Hiya googler,

No it's not the map I'm referring to, it's the description header "Dundee City Centre, Dundee" right at the top of the page underneath the blue banner with for sale, to rent, etc etc.

This property is in Happyhillock, Dundee and nowhere near the centre of Dundee as described in the property. Anyone looking at the description who is not familiar with Dundee is in for a bit of a shock. Dundee is not huge, but our city centre is a bit further away from this property than it implies.

The map itself, I agree is not so good for clarifying the city centre location, but then again it's not being directed to the city centre is it but a spot over 2 miles away.

Yeah, but the point I'm making is that agents generally send a data feed to portals like Rightmove rather than manually entereing them, and this is fitted into whatever system the portal has. If Rightmove doesn't have a category or location for Happhillock, then they'll fit it into whatever category they can. Which appears to be .... the centre.

However, remax's site has Dundee divided into 16 areas - I don't know the city like you, but if the house you're looking at doesn't fit into any of the named areas, it may be forced to default to city centre..... see the quick search at LHS of their home page

Googler, I take your point, I've had another look at the Remax site and noticed the city divisions you mentioned, albit there are a couple wrong (for example, Charleston had it's name changed to Camperdown a few years back, although most locals still speak and know of it as Charleston).

One of the properties I linked to, does indeed show as Hilltown correctly on the Remax site, but the other, the Happyhillock one still shows as city centre, and would have been better marked as Douglas and Angus, as it's literally a few hundred yards away from Douglas.

I need to go out now but I'll finish this post in a bit. To be continued.....

I've been searching using pspc/tspc.co.uk for properties around Perth and Dundee for the last 8 months, rightmove does have a few extra properties but it's a very limited range.

Property bee isn't supported on these sites yet so my current favourite is

    https://www.sspc.co.uk

which covers all the major 'x'spc sites and centres of population in Scotland.
Plus it supports the bee - I'd recommend!
