Need landline & broadband at new address

Hi All,

I thought I was a relatively savvy MoneySaver but have to admit that the whole phone/broadband thing has me bamboozled

After being with BT for over a year (and out of contract) I hoped I could get a cheaper package when I move to a new address.

BT offer £11.50 line rental and £24.46 per month Option 3 (unlimited download), total £35.96 per month. I checked SamKnows and out of all the possible providers (BT, AOL, O2, Talk Talk, Orange and Tiscalli) Tiscalli seemed to offer the best package at £14.99 per month after their initial 3 month hook rate of £9.99...however Tiscali want to whack me with a £99 "connection fee"

Is this "connection fee" standard? I'm confused becuase BroadbandChoices website said Tiscali's connection fee was £30...is the difference because I don't have an exising phone line at the new address?

I'm not fussed about call packages as I only need the landline for the broadband, if you know what I mean...however I do need unlimited download as I am a relatively heavy internet user

anyone any idea on the best way forward? Should I get a BT line and then just the best broadband on top of that?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

JJ

  • O2 are good in my experience and very cheap, esp if you have O2 mobile. I would check to see if you can get on Post Office line as they are cheaper than BT. I think connection was free and router is lent from them.

If you have mobile contract with other company then check to see if the do special. Maybe ask them if they can match o2?

    £24.99 is a bad deal!
  • URGENT!!!! Orange are now giving a free!! YES free ipod nano for anyone who is a premier customer(high spender) who signs up to their Free/discount home starter package which includes cheaper calls than bt as well, so if you have a pay monthly mobile and are in their network area you could get it free!!!!!!
I have personal knowledge of how this works as my partner works for them, they are obligated to tell you if you call them and ask because their calls are recorded!! heh heh heh

O2 is very good - I would recommend going with them if you can get LLU
