Conveyancing - more details

I have looked back through all of the threads re online conveyancing and there are a lot of recommendations about the introduction companies but not many details about the actual solicitors used.
I just wondered if, as some of the threads go back a few months now, what your experiences have been like.
I got a a quote from cheapcheap conveyancing - a newcastle solicitors contacted me which I saw someone else post too.
So if you've used any online brokers like cheapcheapconveyancing or any of the others would it be possible to have more details now you're all a bit further down the line with your conveyancing so that I can tell which actual solicitors they recommended and whether they were any good rather than just the price. I'm going in rather blind as I can't get any local recommendations from anyone either.
BTW I live in Yorkshire.
Thanks

my advice would be to spend your money on a known and trusted solicitor, one that you can actually ring up or visit and touch if you need to
Our conveyancing cost around £450 for a no-chain sale, but the house we're buying has tenants at the moment....
These people REALLY DO earn their money for the work they do for you, so i'd urge you to look around locally, or ask EA recommendations and pick the best one - its not something you should try to cut costs on too far given the stress that house buying can cause.....0 -
That's kind of what I'm asking for - I don't know anyone locally apart from my ea and I've actually been told not to go with their recommendation, I've rung around a few local one but I'm still going in blind if you see what Imean.
So I don't mind using one that's a distance away as long as others have used them and they have proven to be reliable.

I went with the solicitors in wakefield that contacted me from cheapcheapconveyancing, basically due to the no sale-no fee & low price.
They have done everything they were supposed to, but they aren't the fastest people - maybe over-booked as they said they get a lot of business from that site.
I have always received a reply to email within 24 hours & phonecalls usually get straight to the lady dealing with our house - the one time it didn't i was called back 30mins later.Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!0 -
Would anyone else recommend cheapcheapconveyancing?
Any horror stories? Any triumphs?0 -

I know I'm biased, being a property lawyer, but my heart sinks every time a get a letter from one of they "conveyacing-factory" firms. They are so incompetant, it usually adds around £100 to my own client's bill, just because of the extra work I have to do, sorting out their mess.
Usually the workers there aren't qualified (really!) and you only ever get a call centre, you can't speak to "your" lawyer. Also, you probably won't be able to get advice on the other legal matters that buying a property affects - wills, IHT, Capital Gains Tax, Declarations of Trust, Planning Law, EPA's etc.
Like I said, I know I'm biased, but, you get what you pay for, IMHO!0 -
cheapcheapconveyancing connected me to a firm called Beaumont Legal, who are registered with the law society...

So far, so good. Received the letter of engagement within 24hrs as promised. Have been given the name of the person dealing with my case, together with a direct telephone number and email address.4kW 8.33 Eternity (2.5kW SSE 1.5kW WSW). Glinton, Cambridgeshire.0 -
Last time I moved (nearly 4 years ago) we used an online 'introduction' site for cheap conveyancing - can't remember the site but something like 'findasolicitor.com' as they guaranteed cheaper fees.
We ended up with a solicitors in Bradford (we were moving from central London to Surrey) and it was a real pain. Everything took longer as it all had to be posted (and they wouldn't phone or email if it could be done by letter instead...), and we ended up receiving the contract to sign by post the day before we had to exchange to stop the whole chain collapsing (allegedly - as a non-FTB I'd now tell them to wait a day!), unfortunately the post didn't arrive until after we'd both left for work so got the contract at 8pm with a letter saying that unless it was with them by 12midday on the following day the purchase would fall through....
Bradford's a long drive from London in the middle of the night.
I'd strongly recommend paying a little bit more money to have a solicitor near where you live/where you are moving to.0
