Hi Shelly, Can I ask why you think they would suggest that, do you work for them by anychance?? Thank you
No I don't work for the NHS at all, let alone the NHS direct helplineI am just basing my comment on the fact that every time I have had cause to call them I have been advised to go to A&E.
They usually give very vague advice and then end the call with "but I would advise going to A&E"
Seems like they are covering themselves with the 'go to A&E' comment at the end.
I am not suggesting all the nurses at the end of the phone suggest it, just the ones I have spoken to :rotfl::heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Well I rang NHS direct, just to see what they wuld say and all I got was automated service telling me 'we are experiencing a high volume of calls therefore we are only taking emergency calls at this time, please stay on the line if you have an emergency' But as my GP has already stated its not an emergency enough to visit them until my appt, I would have felt a bit guilty hanging on!
We have been to playgroup this morning as I wanted to see if she would be tempted into using it on the slide frame and cars but no such luck, she stayed off the cars and fell off the frame and bumped the back of her head after struggling to move her foot round to go down the slide. She also crawled everywhere. I guess I can only wait for appt on monday now :-(0 -
I don't think it should be that painful that it would make her yelp, if it was stiff or weak she would still use it maybe tentalively. But I think she is showing signs of it being very painful and I don't think that it right.
Also doctors do get it wrong as you've seen, if your still not happy I would take another trip to A&E maybe in the morning when hopefully it will be quieter.
I was thinking of maybe just going to A+E this morning and getting it checked again but was thinking maybe take her to playgroup and see how she reacts to things there, maybe spur her on a bit. Didnt work :-(. I wont be able to go now tho as am worried I wont get back in time to pick DS from school. I might give GP a ring at 2pm (they are closed for lunch til then) and hopefully speak to a different Dr and see what is said this time! Thanks for reply!!0 -

I've called them a few times - you usually get through to someone who doesn't seem to be medically qualified at first, but if they can't help they will ask a nurse to ring you back. Obviously there is only so much that a nurse can do over the phone, so they will run through the relevant questions and if they think it is something that needs dealing with they will tell you to contact your gp or A&E.
To be honest, if it was me I'd phone my gp's surgery and ask to speak to the triage nurse. In our surgery, if you can convince her that it needs looking at, she should be able to get you an emergency same day appointment with the gp.0 -
Do you have a local minor injury unit? When i bust my leg then had problems about a week later i took myself to a minor injury unit and explained what had happened. They then did full checks on my leg and in the end admitted me back into hospital to ensure my leg healed properly.
After reading this i think i would be at A&E and i wouldn't take no for an answer until you get a full examination of DD.Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.0 -

Unfortunately, though my GP surgery is very good in most ways, if you want to speak to the triage nurse you need to make an appt unless its to do with a recent jab! Other than that if its an emergency you have to wait for the duty Dr to call you back and I have already done that but they do have different docs taking emergencies on different days so will call them now!

Hi, thanks for this, Ive just done a check and nearest one is 20+ miles away at Deal, im in Ashford, Kent, and though I drive I will have to wait for OH to get back to be here for DS, he spent the 3+ hours with me in A+E at the start and was not happy with the waiting around! I will get onto GP now, see how that goes and then if no luck will return to A+E. Thanks!!0 -
If you believe your daughter is in severe pain, personally I would take her to either A&E or at least to see a practice nurse and not be fobbed off.
No-one knows your daughter and how she acts better than you, if you are not satisfied with what they say, question, question, question, why is she still in so much pain? How can you help her? Is there a possibility (however small) that it has not healed properly?
I'm a complete pain in the butt when I have to see Dr, whether for myself or my children, If I wasn't, DD2 could well have been dead by now! 4 days, 4 trips to see 4 different Dr's (including Saturday and Sunday), first 3 saying I was over reacting and she just had a cold, She was my 4th baby for crying out loud, I know a B***y cold!! 4 Dr rushed her into hospital, she was like a lifeless rag doll in my arms by then, she had Bronchiolitis, stats were so low they thought the machine was faulty!
If you're not happy, just be a pain in the butt until you are;)'We can get over being poor, but it takes longer to get over being ignorant'
