That looks very interesting. What is the retention / completion like?

I wondered that for $11 what I'd expect. I've only been a member over a month, but am a 'regular'.

Completion is very good, Better than newshosting.

Retention is advertised at 190 days but has gone up to 270 days (unadvertised, but is in their news blog). I had trouble with stuff round 160 days, but suspect the system had been upgraded and had not got to that date yet as recently I have downloaded older things, but a month has moved on :)
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
  • Very interesting comments, thanks everyone.

Looks like my 2nd option is the one to go for. As i said in my first post Zen are excellent but expensive so I need to shop around carefully for my next ISP.

forgot to say I max out my line and it would be constant if i had a better spec PC and also bar isp peak times at 1400 KB - around 12meg bits/sec

There are loads of Linux distros out there!!! ;)

  • I use xennews which is €12.50 a month, so a bit more expensive than astraweb, but very good completion, and 200 day retention I believe.
  • I had been with Zen for 6 years up until January. Best ISP in the world. Shame about the newsgroups - but NG their service was always a bit hit and miss I found! - and they were expensive :(

TalkTalk is cheaper and equally suitable given I had my own router (the one they supply is terrible!), and no longer run any public servers at home.
