KEF, the loudspeaker manufacturer, do the same with speakers that feature their UniQ Drive units. After production, they measure (acoustically, not "these 2 look the same") and then pair up drive units that exhibit the same sonic characterisitics.

"Matched pairs" simply means "buying 2 of the same ones" - your analogy with KEF is a different kettle of fish.

Anyway, seems Crucial don't like it if you're spending hundreds of pounds with them and your orders all qualify for free Gizmo drives.

I've just come off the phone with a delightful young lady who seems to think it's legal to make up the terms and conditions as she goes along! Reminded her of UK consumer law and asked to speak with a manager - they're all in meetings apparently, what a surprise.

Is there anywhere on MSE to report dodgy retailers? I'll certainly be reporting Crucial to Trading Standards over this offer.

The matched pair I bought for my laptop came to £71 .. or £46 each.
Exactly the same memory.

Now I just have to get rid of my 2 X 256mb strips .. wonder if anyone in the Dell laptop thread would be interested

Crucial called me this afternoon to say all my orders have now shipped and should arrive with the free USB drive.

I was told some of their staff are being over-zealous in limiting legitimate orders for the free Gizmo drive. If you find yourself in that position call them on the freephone number and make sure they don't fob you off with the "only one per customer" rubbish.

Offer finishes in 2 days time...

It says this under the "Legal Stuff" heading re. the offer:

• Crucial reserves the right to cancel or change this offer at any time without notice.

Does that give them the right to tell you it's only one per customer and stick to it?

I made two seperate orders on Thursday night to be collected from the sorting office by me this evening. The first I clicked through Quidco and didn't use a discount code. The second I also clicked through quidco but also used a discount code to get 4% off. Only the first one has tracked to my Quidco account.

Will be interesting to see if they packaged it all up as one order with one memory stick!

Just picked up my Crucial orders - they both came in the same packet but were seperate on the delivery note enclosed. They sent me the TWO free USB memory sticks as per the order so no problems there at all!
