Non Paying Newbie Buyer!!

What do you think I should do?
Newbie buyer (registered on day of purchase) wants to cancel deal. Says it was a present that has already been bought!!?? However they bid on 4 similar items in the space of 10 minutes or so and won two of them (mine being one).
They have e-mailed me 3 days later to ask to cancel.
I suspect they are quite young.
Have drafted a reply telling them about Non Paying Bidders and negative feedback and suggesting they cough up and learn a valuable lesson cheaply...item cost £6 all in.
Do I send it or not?
50p of the sale is going to charity.
What do you guys think? Should I show mercy or not?

Bloody timewasters! >:(
I wouldn't even bother with the email, file an NPB and give them a strike.
Leaving a neg would be pointless as it could do you more damage then them, chances are they will neg you and not use the account again.0 -
did you have more than one bidder?
if you did send a second chance offer to the second person
cancel the first winning bid as a mutual cancellation
or send them a neg feedback, cos with out a FVF you wont get any money backsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

No it was a BIN auctin for 22 items.
Have more to sell so its not really a big deal to me.
I just feel that newbies have to learn somewhere. We all had our stuff ups at some stage...but I for one took them on the nose and learnt a lesson.0 -
Hintza, I would stick to your guns on this one. I would probably e mail the guy and thank him nicely for his e mail but point out that before he won the item the ebay pages would have reminded him several times that his bid was binding, also as it was a BIN he would have had to click twice to accept and buy the item.
Tell him that ebay do not have the option for a confirmed buyer to opt out of purchase and that you will therefore follow the normal ebay practice and reclaim your fees on the basis that he is a non paying bidder.
Mention as well the three strikes and you are out bit so he knows how serious it actually is.
Good luck. I know everyone needs to learn the ropes but if he can't manage something as simple as confirming a buy on a BIN auction he probably doesn't belong on ebay.

Don't you think the whole feedback system on EBAY is a joke? What exactly is the point of it when you can't leave negative feedback incase they do the same to you? Its totally useless, if people don't leave negative feedback then nobody else will know to avoid them... and get ripped off. If you saw a old lady getting mugged on the street you would report it to the police wouldn't you? Same princible applies in my view. And if they do retaliate and leave you a negative, everyone with sense can see you a legitimate buyer/seller anyway from previous feedback, and you hit a bad apple. >:(!"£$%^&*()0

I agree entirely about feedback, but as this is my sellers account and is newish a neg will stick out like a sore thumb. However, I might just do it after Christmas.0 -
I totally agree that the feedback and the non-paying bidder procedure on eBay is a joke. I sell a lot of items on eBay and it really stresses me out when a 7 day auction finally ends with a buyer with 0 feedback who then decides not to contact me and not to pay. I then have to relist the item and chances are it'll happen again - usually with mobile phones.
eBay definitly needs to sort out it's procedures to stop this happening but to be honest I don;t know how they can as everyone had 0 feedback at one point! Can anyone here suggest any ideas? Maybe we could pass them on?0 -
Unfortuately I have a funny feeling my 100% feedback is about to be destroyed buy a buyer
They won an item from me 6 days ago but in the description I CLEARLY stated payment must be received within 5 days of auction ending if this request could not be fulfilled DO NOT BID .. I have now today received an email from them which states payment will be sent shortly but asking to make sure they receive item by 21st DEC.
Even if their cheque arrives today MONDAY is the soonest it can be banked add to this the 5 days needed for it to clear.
Add the fact the last date for posting royal mail standard packages is the 15th DEC does anyone know if I am within my rights to cancel this sale ...
I would add also when I have tried to contact the winning bidder but within a minute of me sending my reply to him I received an automated email back claiming this person no longer worked for this company from which his email was sent ( VERY STRANGE ) ... while I dont wish to spoil anyones christmas I dont see why I should run the risk of sending items before payment has even been received never mind cleared ....
Could you please give me your veiws on this .... as I feel if the item was that important to them surely payment would have been sent immediately after auction ended .... I would finally add I sent an email to them as soon as the item finished stating I would be away from 13 th Dec so to please send funds ASAP .. which they have not done !0 -
Hi Coupon king,
You can of course refuse to sell to any winning bidder but they can then report you as a non performing seller and leave you a negative.
You may have terms in your auction that require payment within 5 days but ebay will not even consider a claim against a non paying bidder until 7 full days have elapsed, and FVF can be claimed only another full 7 days after that.
It is also my experience that those slowest to pay seem to want their items the quickest as well!
I would suggest waiting until day 8 and if no payment has been received to then start the NPB claim to get your final fees back. If you do receive a cheque in payment i would definitely suggest you wait the five days or so that your bank need to clear funds, this does give you an element of protection. After you have banked the cheque I would then e mail the buyer telling him that assuming cheque is cleared on xx of December the item will be despatched on that date and not before.

Soolin & VH ... THANKS for your advice
I only put the pay within 5 days request so I could make sure of sending them their item before I left on my holiday. The really annoying thing is the item they won was a fantastic bargin and well below the price I was expecting ( started low & no-one else bid ) BUT THEY WON THE ITEM FAIR & SQUARE ! .. Now the person they bought this item for will have to wait until after christmas to get their present as there is NO WAY I am sending item because they couldnt be bothered to send payment ... I guess theres just no helping some people !
I have worked really hard to keep my 100% feedback to the extent of even giving people extra items on occasions , so if Iam left NEG-FEEDBACK I will complain to ebay ( dont know if it will do any good )
As to accepting PAYPAL I have thought about this option but I have read that many conflicting stories ..some people swear by it but some say they wouldnt touch with barge pole ! ..0
