Good Luck with your challenge :T
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Yes, 'gaucho'! First 'gaucho', 'brasileiro' after. I'm more of a regionalist, you see. Rio is ok for a holiday, but not my cup of tea really.

Friends will sometimes tease me saying I'm from 'Gay Port' :D . Do people here use the word 'gay' with the meaning of happy at all? I guess the homossexual conotation of the word has already transcended the original meaning.

If you do well with spanish than you shouldn't have much problem being understood in portuguese-speaking countries, so don't bother much.
PS. 'gostei' instead of 'gostia'

pp - didn't get what you meant with bonus abuser

I could communicate in Brah-zeel fine when falando espanhol. The most irritating thing with them is that they are SO CLOSE to each other that my Spanish tends to interfere with my (minimal) Pwer-too-gaysh (yes, Carioca accent!).

In older times they would say 'we were having a very gay time' and stuff like that, which meant 'happy'. Not now though.

"Yes, 'gaucho'! First 'gaucho', 'brasileiro' after"

    Rubbish! You're all from Uruguay!!!

BTW I liked Brazil but I have to admit I wish I had gone to somewhere other than Rio. Crazy place.

don't like 'cariocas' jarring accent, it's like speaking to a boiling kettle or something. Minha mae e' filha de uma portuguesa e meu pai filho de uma italiana, por motivos de praticidade acabei tirando o passaporte portugues. Passaporte brasileiro e shi*e e' a mesma coisa:D . How is it going with the money saving? A quarter of the year has already gone, crazy isn't it.

Mas tudos os gauchos temen sangue italiana, verdade?

I met two guys from Porto Alegre in Rio and both those guys had Italian blood and, because of that, they were both able to get Italian passports due to some crazy law. I met a girl in Rio (the person I am flying over to see as a holiday this Friday) who was born near Curatiba but grow up in Germany (Brazilian father, German mother) and she is 1/4 Italian and 1/4 native Brazilian from her father's side. It seems like every Brazilian I met from South of Rio had Italian blood. Actually, EVERY gaucho I met was of Italian extraction.

And EVERY male gaucho I met kept telling me about this place I must visit called 'Carmen's Club'...*

BTW, although it is sung with the Carioca accent (which I admit I find irritating on it), this is a great cover version...

    Ah Foofi22 - that I can explain:D

I registered my details on the Daily Mail online bingo thingy
https://bingo.st-minver.com/mail/bingo/lobby/top-games/ (hope this link works) and deposited £10 - DM matched my deposit and I sadly played a few games of bingo - although did win a fiver! and as long as I maintain a positive balance in my account I can play their free scratchcard every day.........most I've won is 10p but at least I'm guaranteed to win at least that:p:p
Yes folks - this time next year I'll have banked a whopping £36....cchhhhiiiicchhiiiinggggggg;)

    :D:DNP:D:D
    February13 - £74990 (or thereabouts)
    MND - Let's go for 2020 'cos it's got a nice ring to it:D
    C'mon nattypants:cool:

yeah, this cover singer is definitely carioca, whereas Vanessa da Mata is from a different part of the country and thus doesn't have that kind of accent. Btw, hadn't seen her singing with Ben Harper yet, interesting.

I'm amazed you heard of Carmen's Club :rotfl: That's a high end escort's club in Porto Alegre, high standards and prices accordingly. Sometimes you wonder what those girls are doing there, they could well be modelling or something. Money talks especially as brazil is in the shi*e as always.

Italian immigration is strong indeed in the South, but it's not like everybody has the ascendancy. There are 'italian' cities where most people have some connection with Italy, but depends on the region really.
