Missed payment by 1 day

  • I missed the payment by a day.....So we made good on our threat - cancelled three MBNA cards.....For the sake of £20 and their principles they are losing out hundreds of pounds.

I missed my train by one minute. - I will never, ever, travel with that train company again!

For the sake of running a correct time table, they are losing out hundreds of pounds!!!
  • A great analogy. :j :j :j

    So heres something interesting.

Having missed my payment date by 1 day I decided I wanted to clear the card in order to keep estimated interest at a minimum. In order to do this I paid the complete card off on Fri 27th Feb.

I logged into my MBNA account on Saturday 28th to find that MBNA processed my payment on the 27 i.e. the posting date and transaction date were the same!

I was very pleased but then began to wonder how come they could do this one week and not the next ...

So I called customer services and explained the above and they said the payment the week before (which was the one not applied to my account on time and caused me to incur interest) quote "was not processed by us on time". I queried why it could be processed on the same day for the 27th and they said "It must have been because the system didn't have as many payments to process". I'm not complaining about the 1 day turn around time - I wish it was like this all the time.

They then went on to explain they publish the number days it takes to process payments etc but it does go to show you that they can process on the same day if they want. Granted the cash didn't physically leave my account until today (3rd March) but if they processed my 1st payment on the same day, or even 1 day later, I could have avoided the interest altogether.

I rang retentions to discuss closing the card down and moving else where and they recommended visiting MSE to check out the best deals if moving was what I wanted to do! :-)

They were did specifically mention the Virgin card if I wanted to switch for 0% for 16 months.
