Does anybody know the best place to buy ex company cars. We want a newish car decent not small car and we don't do much mileage so the high mileage of ex company cars shouldn't matter.
Thanks

  • I have a very vague memory of reading somewhere that BT sell off their vehicles - maybe there's a website? Anyone else remember this?

For ex-company cars you need to get yourself down to a car auction - BCA and Mannheim are two of the main ones that lease companies dispose of vehicles through. They have branches all over the country so you should be able to get to one fairly easily.

Do you want to buy at auction.... clik the Auction View link on https://www.honestjohn.co.uk, this will cost a few £$'s, but lets you search within British Car Auctions countrywide database, of EVERY car entered. Choose from the 'branded' fleet sections, of leasing companies, there. The HJ site is free & full of hints n tips, including how to buy from auction.

You could even employ an 'auction buyer' to do it on your behalf

https://www.tradesales.co.uk are HUGE dealers of ex-fleet vehicles, but don't expect any service/customer care/high pressure sales, just take it or leave it attitude & prices a few hundred £$£$ over auction.

BT & other utitlites/companies aren't really set up for private sales, even one off traders aren't welcomed, so you'd be unlucky there.

Yep - I work for BT and they sell off all their ex-company cars at a decent price. Most of them have got high mileage on them but they're well cleaned-up and any problems are sorted before they're sold. I picked up an ex-company Vectra 2 years ago with 68,000 miles on it and I haven't had any and it still runs fine! :)

Thanks for this but do they sell to the general public or do you have to work for them?

I used to work for a hire-car company and they still sell off their old stock cheap. As an example an 18 month old Vectra 1.8ls tends to have max 30k on the clock and goes for £6500.

I can point you in the right direction if needed

    Hope this helps

Yes that would be good if you could point me in the wrong direction to have a look into this.
    Thanks
