Thanks to all for the postings.
After 6 months of contribution based Job Seekers Allowance you then go to means tested or income based Job Seekers Allowance.
Now if your partner is working over 30 hours per week even on the legal minimum wage, you will NOT receive any Job Seekers Allowance at all.
After becoming unemployed, contribution based Job Seekers Allowance used to be paid for one year, but the Thatcher Government changed this to six months.
Prior to the 1997 general election, Tony Blair promised that he would restore this back to 12 months if his was elected.
He won the election but never carried out is promise.
My comments regarding working tax credit are correct and accurate.
I sign on at my local Job Centre every two weeks and only receive National Insurance Credits despite working and paying tax for 30 years.
My Job Centre said that there is no money in their budget for job re-training.
Additionally, if I was legally allowed to market my house and then bank the money, I couldn't loose any benefit entitlement simply because I don't receive any benefits !
You can't loose what you haven't got !
Any pre-election promises by the Tories to scrap HIPS should be viewed with equivalent suspicion as Tony Blair's promise to restore Job Seekers Allowance back to twelve months.
Politicians will promise anything prior to an election.
Regarding 500 failed job applications, yes there is something wrong. I'm well educated with a clean previous 30 year employment record in Telecommunications and Radio Engineering. I have a clean driving licence and no criminal record. I have had my CV professionally assessed by experts who found it to be excellent.
What's wrong?, I'm 51 years old, that's what's wrong.
Few if any employers wish to recruit candidates over 50 years of age.
Ageism is absolutely rife in this country despite the Government feeble attempt to legislate against it.
All my posts are correct and accurate and NOT a wind up.0 -

Thanks for the explanation and I feel you need to simplify your questions when posting and more important post within the right boards. There is a benefit board that is excellent.
I still say try CAB, see your MP. I have every sympathy as I have seen friends over 50 with impeccable backgrounds thrown on the scrap heap. You are right 50 is a bad age to be over in most employers eyes so make sure you claim every penny of benefit to which you are entitled.
A slight aside when I go into B&Q I seek out the older staff as they are more likleyto be able to answer my questions. Even if you ask the yunger ones they shout the older ones for help!!!!!!!!!!A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. ..................said that putting my house on the market without HIPS will attract a £200 fine.
Having no income and being unable to pay the fine will result in contempt of court and a prison sentence..................................with the possibility of a prison sentence for marketing my house......................Should I just market my house and accept the resulting prison sentence?
How long is the sentence likely to be for contempt of court over a £200 fine?
Will I still be expected to pay the fine after I have served my prison sentence?
Why have the Government made criminals out of innocent people who have absolutely no criminal intent what so ever?
Oh Dear Oh Dear! An Estate Agent 'accidentally' misinforming a client. Whatever next?
First things first. The fine for not having a HIP before marketing starts is payable by the "responsible person". Despite all evidence to the contrary, the "responsible person " in the case of a sale through an Agency is the ESTATE AGENT! It's THEIR legal responsibility to ensure the HIP is in place. You've got nothing to fear at all. Perish the thought that they only told you that, to try to scare you into taking their overpriced HIP.
I recall a study not so long back that found a large percentage of Agents to be in breach of the regulations anyway! Any convictions yet? None that I know of.0 -
I wonder if I need a HIPS to offer my house for sale on Ebay?
Would Ebay accept a house advert without a HIPS?
Technically you need a HIP in place before any form of marketing. This includes eBay.
By marketing yourself, you then become the "responsible person" (see previous post) and therefore personally liable to the fines involved (with a miniscule exception) although as david29dpo has said, no-one has seen anyone fined yet.
"Would eBay ask for a HIP?"
Do they ask users whether that Rolex you're putting up for auction is real or a fake? I believe they're not even legally based here so why should they care?
You're the one doing the marketing. They are only advertising. (Another very grey area.)
Best advice to the original question is - Don't panic. Use t'Internet to find some reasonably priced HIP suppliers and ask them if they could agree to a modest payment upfront (to cover search costs) and the rest on sale or after a defined period. You never know, someone might take that deal. It's worth a try.0
