If you are serious about selling your house then aim to sell it within the 6 months. You will then be able to pay the fees required.
If you are not serious about selling then do not bother to ebay it.

Serious means priced to sell not some inflated price with refusal to budge.
  • You may be entitled to Working tax credit if your partners wages are so low.

You can market your house yourself though Ebay or elsewhere with no HIP. You will be liable if someone tells or you manage to sell, the buyers solicitor will ask for it. However i have yet to see anyone fined.

Thanks for all your helpful comments.
I may try Ebay but I suspect they will charge at least double what an estate agent would.
My partner was receiving working tax credits until April 2008.
She lost them because I had 9 months employment during 2007.
The working tax credit system is based upon earnings in the previous tax year and not the present one.
This strange system ensures you have money when you don't need it and you don't have money when you do !

    Why not try asking CAB?

You are asking complex questions that I doubt even experienced sellers/buyers/agent (me) will know the precise answer.

It is until your circs change and then you ring them up and tell them

I suggest you go to the CAB to seek professional advice about benefits and also that you get some job seeking help.

500 applications means you're doing something wrong.
  • Has anyone actually been prosecuted yet for marketing without a HIP?

I ask the question because as far as I know there have been no charges in connection with fox hunting another new law.

Everyone apart from the Govt who introduced these things and people who make money on them regard them as a total waste of time.

The tories have stated they will abolish them if elected. I'm sure on this basis Trading standards have better things to allocate their resources to.

Its not interesting enough to be a wind up
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team
  • Your first port of call should be CAB to discuss the benefit situation. You say that your partner has a very low income which should suggest that you would be entitled to job seekers allowance at very least.

Is it possible for you to do some training or a course through the jobcentre to improve your skills enabling you to get a job? 500 applications is a huge amount and I feel this is either exaggerated or there is a serious problem somewhere.

Like others have said you can get your HIP payment deferred for up to 6 months allowing ample time for you to save the funds. If the HIP was £175 you would only need to save around £30 a month/ £6.7 a week.

Also have you thought ahead at all? If you do sell your house and you have savings then you and your partner will not be entitled to benefits while you have over £16,000 in capital.
