I forgot to say I also save the reply envelopes from junk mail but I rarely send letters so I use them to send money up to school (dinner money, trip money, gym club money) or nursery/holiday playschemes (fees).

Me too! And the Chinese containers. DH also collects yellow plastic ducks - quite a few hotels put these in the bathrooms.

I also collect allthe rubber bands that the postman drops on the pavement outside the post storage box and have trained the kids to do the same.

I belong to a minatures group- we make furniture for dolls houses. Lolly sticks and those wooden or plastic sticks from take out coffee are great for spreading glue. I can throw them away afterwards and not have to carry a sticky brush home. I use empty individual foil dishes- like the ones from bought mince pies- for glue.

We're always looking for ideas for making furniture out of things that most people throw away. I've used the round top of an ice cream container for the top of a table- covered with a cloth of course. We also made an occasional table from the top of a can of hair spray.

I do have to restrain myself at times- or the bottom of my handbag ends up resembling a scrap yard

I use the shower caps from hotels as covers for shoes - you can then pack a pair in luggage when space is limited - keeps marks of clothes.

What a great idea I shall be sure to start picking them up. Thanks suziewuzie

Isnt it a pity that more and more hotels now, well the ones I visit more frequently have the big dispensers screwed to the wall.

They dont dispense so well either ... into your empty small bottles either :naughty:

DS says I am embarrasing when I collect up other people's wrapping paper and start flattening it out! I don't usually bother about this as I'm usually in the company of my family who all know me well anyway, but even I went a bit pink when I started scavenging paper at my neice's christening and there were loads of well off guests watching! :o

At last I've found someone as bad as me!! Everyone thinks I'm sad for cutting up Christmas & Birthday cards for tags, re-using gift bags & wrapping paper, bows, ribbons and tissue paper. Most people just hand everything straight to me now for my recycling!! Never done it at a Christening though!! :D
