No BB only provider that I know of requires you to pay BT for line rental. They just require you to have a BT compatible line to operate an ADSL service. As far as I can tell this applies to you with Primus. You could even in theory take your bb from BT and your line rental and calls with Primus if you wanted to.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Thats what i was thinking to, but i spoke to virgin and they told me i must be paying line rental to BT, i did explain the line was still BT but no i could not get there bb because of that? Thats where i was getting all confused on what i had to do to get bb?
Did look at some other providers but dont like the 18month contracts an virgin is only 12months.

I don't quite follow this but maybe someone else can advise on this issue with Virgin? There nothing in the broadband T&C's or FAQ's to support what they've said to you on the phone.
have you tried checking your availability here?
    https://client.virgin.net/productpicker/checkAvailability
If this confirms availability you could just sign up online. Presumably if BT line rental is a requirement, then it wil ask you to confirm that during the sign up process.

  • There is a lot of talk on here about Freeola at the moment it seems. I thought I would share my views.
The general consensus here seems to view it as a "stop off" BB provider. The no contract (excluding the 30 days written notice) is fantastic. The fact that in this day and age you do not require a 12 month, or the more common 18 month, contract is quite a find!
The tariffs are a wee bit pricey in comparison to cheaper alternatives i know, but the extras you get free are fantastic. Actual free web hosting and uploading into unlimited space? Good. As long as you are using your Freeola connection more or less anythnig is free
The site and any info can be found http://freeola.com/ or broadband details http://freeola.com/broadband/

I also noticed someone mention service call charges of 10p p/m. All I can say to that is every single time i have made a call to them i have spoken to someone after about 3 rings.

They proclaim to be the " UK free internet service provider " then charge customers via a premium rate for service calls.

BTW, your post looks almost like SPAM to me, 2 posts, both with links to Freeola..
  • How do you mean spam? The guy was asking for advice on a provider and I was providing a link. I'm happy with them so maybe others will be. If I'm not supposed to link things I'll remove them. New here so I'm still unsure.

I can understand the reasoning behind people thinking the charges are bad, but as I said it is a good service (or at least I find it to be). If people do not want to pay for the calls they can use the e-mail system, but i prefer the real person interaction etc. Personal choice.

    .

Nothing wrong with posting a link, it is just that when a new user comes on here, makes 2 posts, both containing the same link to the same company, it looks a bit suspicious that it may be spam.
  • Oh I see what you mean. Simple reason behind it because I am on here browsing for cheaper options, and saw the huge size of the community. I spent ages looking for what I wanted so did a search for "Freeola" and thought I'd help a few comments out.

In my opinion they generally do compete with most "cheap or free" providers. And i like free stuff :D
