Where to get Icelandic currency

Hi All
Am I just looking in the wrong places, or is it impossible to get Icelandic currency (for holiday money) at the moment. The major currency exchanges don't offer it. Marks & Spencer do, but they just called me to say that they are not allowed to order any more as there is a restriction in place?!!!
Has anyone had any experience in using credit cards / cash machines / exchanges in Iceland. If I go with a wod of £ and a credit card am I OK? Will I get a good exchange rate?
Or does anyone know where I can get some Icelandic Krona?
Thanks for your help.

Hi

There's quite a good thread on Icelandic Krona located here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1467311
Basically, there is one place in Central London that is selling it (Thomas Exchange Global), but other than that, it's almost impossible to find. Check out the other thread and hopefully you should have the answers you need.
I'm going in 2 weeks, and at this stage just plan on getting cash out of an ATM on arrival, with some pounds to exchange at a currency exchange if I need too. Unfortunately I can't pay by cards all the time (as is recommended) as my bank charges too much!
Hope this helps.0 -
Its the same with Cuba and Morroco. Take your cash over and get it changed over there or used the ATMs. Its a bit of a pain but im sure you'll enjoy your hols

Thanks for your help - looks like I will take some cards + sterling then. At least I won't have the age old problem of trying to guess how much currency I need to change up before I go!

You're not in the north of england, are you?
I brought back 5000 ISK (about £31) and wanted to exchange it back, but can't seem to find a place to do it

ScarletBea - No I'm in the south (Hertfordshire), but I will be in Sheffield this weekend if thats any help. I would be interested in buying some, infact £30 would be about the right amount, just to get started with catching a bus from the airport, first meal etc. Send me a private message if you are in the Sheffield area and want to sell it.:j0
