Very Slow Email

Hi

Could anyone please help me with my Outlook express? My email has become very slow, when I press the send and receive button the window pops up and the green bar takes forever to get to the end so has to receive my emails, also when I send an email it sits in the outbox for ages

my comp is a Dell inspiron 1720 Vista if thats of any help

Hi,
I doubt if this is the Dell that is causing the problem.
It may be your connection speed but the best bet is the mailbox on your isp.
Authorisation may be taking too long.
Try contacting them.
Creating a hotmail account and sending a mail from there successfully will probably exclude your dell & connection from the problem.

I only put that it was a Dell just in case anyone wanted to know.

the Internet provider is orange and the speed is OK and I don't think it has change but the email speed has, shouldn't the email speed be as quick as the Internet speed?

Are other applications slow or is it just email, also do other machines use the broadband?

no just email, and it use to be very fast,no nothing else uses the broadband, I just noticed one day it had slowed down, what I do on a morning before work is I turn the laptop on press send/receive and within seconds the emails are there but now it takes forever

I too have noticed that it takes a long time for mesages to leave my outbox in Windows Mail. It has only started happening in the past few days. Receiving email seems OK as does browsing.

I am using Vista on a HP machine, ISP - Madasafish.

Is your anti-virus software kicking in and scanning both outgoing and incoming emails? This tends to slow it down. You could turn this off for outgoing emails if you are confident with your security setup.
