The Traction Control system uses the same ABS sensors on the front (as Mondeo's are front wheel drive or FWD as it's abbreviated) to sense when your wheels are spinning but you arent moving enabling the traction control system to intervene and reduce the power enough for the car to get traction. Sounds to me like the wire to the sensor is not completely broken but is possibly chaffed and yes it could be intermittent like the symptons you mention. My advice would be if the main dealer are going to charge £400 then it's a good bet a (good) indepependent will charge around half to two thirds that figure. You need to look for a garage locally with ODB (On Board Diagnostic) equipment i.e. computers that talk to your cars electronics and should be able to highlight the problematic sensor (if thats ther cause which I suspect it is).

Try www.GoodGarage.biz if your unsure of who to go to. :money:

Sign up with www.fordmondeo.org It's free, and very useful, not just for this fault, but for any help that you might need in the future. Sometimes its nice to know that you're not alone, and faults can often be common to lots of cars of that particular make/model. Actually, I lie, its not free really, gold membership is £10 per year, but well worth it for the expanded access. Good luck, they're a cracking car.
  • kwik fit arent an independant garage as such they are a fast fit centre, they dont want to do jobs like this.
by independant we mean a local garage, not a national chain.
get them to fit the abs sensor, you might even find when the abs sensor is fitted and abs is working correctly the fault will not show on the dashboard,so problem sorted, if not disconnect the battery for an hour or so and this can erase the errors codes in the ecu.
dot take it to ford, they will be as interested in your pride and joy as much as kwik fit were with your old honda, they arent interested they just want to service new cars, thats easy money, not mess around with rusty nuts and bolts underneath heavy and awkward to work on V6's.

    second hand sensor,independant garage,sorted.
    ...work permit granted!
