I don't know what to say. I can see that my own insurance terms are useless - replace a £20 phone and a £25 excess. The bit you mention about public place doesn't look too promising.
If the phone is in your name but for your daughter, I don't think you should hide that or pretend you lost it yourself, as that could easily nullify the claim due to false information.0 -
The first thing to do is to report it to the police. You will probably need a crime number to give to T-Mobile. You must also contact T-Mobile and get the phone barred from the networks. This will also stop usage on the SIM.
The "public place" statement is referring to instances where you would put the phone down and leave it unattended, ie left on the table in a cafe.
If you think that it was stolen, then this will be the easiest route to recovering the loss. However, stolen off of a table in a cafe where it was left unattended is not quite the same as stolen from a handbag for insurance purposes.
If the phone is insured as an item by yourself on behalf of your daughter, then I don't think that will affect your claim. If your daughter is under the age of consent then she would not be able to have a contract for insurance in her own right anyway.0 -
Hiya, firstly you'll need to do the claim if its in your name. Second, you'll need to do it asap (ideally within 48 hours of the phone being lost/stolen). Third, what what steve_xx has said is right - contact tmob and get the line barred, then the police as you'll need a crime reference number. Then go down to cpw - take your daughter if you can as she knows what happened (you're still covered if she were using it, thats part of the policy) they'll ask a few questions about what happened and where, and most of the time (providing its done asap) you'll have no bother, you'll have to pay the excess and everything that was lost will be replaced. Thats it really, just make sure you do it asap! (sorry to say that again but its really important!)
Good luck, hth, (from a cpw rep, who (should!) know what they're talking about)0 -
