O2/CPW Credit Check

Have just had my order for a spangly new V3i declined by O2 having ordered online through CPW. Apparently this was declined by Equifax. Now, I have never had a problem with my credit rating, but have just ordered a phone through OSPS, on O2, for my wife. Could the fact that I have placed two orders through seperate (albeit linked) outlets in quick succession be a factor? Rather hacked off, to say the least. Grateful for any insight.

  • Hiya, when a credit check is done for cpw/osps/e2save an answer is given by equifax yes or no, plus the number of connections alowed. Often its only one, so that could be the reason. CPW wont be able to give you any more info, you'll need to contact equifax. hth, good luck

Because the system the companies use are linked the above post sums it up really. if you have only been approved for one connection then regardless of who you get it from if its a cpw company any other connections will prob be declined until you have had your first one for some month and have established payments on your account

Did you order both phones in same name? sounds like you did? what about trying in your other halfs name....

o2 cpw will let you have account in one name and the direct debit in another if this helps?

Dont know if this info helps at all but last July i ordered, all on the same day, 2 x 7600 contract phones online with Three from CPW and also 2 x D500 contract phones online with o2 from Phones4u. These were all successful and still being used now. Im looking to get more contracts ready for when these run out but youve made me wonder now if i will be able to.
  • Update....stopped in at CPW store on the way home tonight to see if I could sort the situation. Lo and behold, absolutely no problems with credit check! So, now in posession of said spangly V3i, but with no £30 from quidco, and no 3 months free insurance.

A call to customer service in the morning methinks!
  • Same here.

I tried to Order 3 mobiles off Phonebox direct a few days ago (same day but about 2-3 hours apart)-had an email to say the order was declined-was told I had to contact experian.

But I Recvd one today. How does that work??

Bear in mind that Experian and Equifax do not decide who gets credit; they merely provide a copy of your credit report to help the lender decide. If the lender says your credit report was the reason for your refusal, by all means contact the relevant agency to get your report, but don't expect the agency to be able to tell why you were refused because they do not know. Only the lender can explain its decision. The agencies aren't even told the outcome of credit applications, so they won't even know you've been refused, just that your credit report has been checked.
