    A maximum wage :)

    Not just a minimum wage

    yEAH,

£6.00 minimum wage and £6.01 maximum wage.

That way we'd all agree on the average wage ;)

What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

  • 1. Being a revolutionary does NOT make you Stalin, Ho Chi Minh or Pol Pot. We're proposing a NEW order here, not a recycling of old, failed systems
Yes it does potentially, you just haven't understood the connection. Who are we?

I'm going to get the p!ss taken out of me here, but I don't care:

There are plenty of us on here who believe in tearing down the old structures and creating a better, fairer society. So my question is, what would that society look like, and how would it function?

In this discussion (he says with s sense of weary futility) could we please take the following as read?

    1. Being a revolutionary does NOT make you Stalin, Ho Chi Minh or Pol Pot. We're proposing a NEW order here, not a recycling of old, failed systems

    2. Being a revolutionary does NOT make you druggie chav hippie dole single-parent council-house baby-eating pinko scum.

My question again: What would the ideal society look like?

You sound like you assume the word "revolutionary" must mean left-wing. Why? It's just as likely that a revolution would bring about a more 'right-wing' society and certainly judging by the polls the Tories are much more popular at the moment than the Labour party who would presumably be the left-wing target of any revolution.

I'd like to see people having to take more responsibility for their decisions and not be bailed out every time, morally and financially.

I'd also like more rewards for responsible people and a return to some of the old values before materialism set in.

Ideally, a socialist society headed by lots of people who understand behavioural economics, and how to incentivise people.

Of course. What do you think the S in my username stands for?

We'll be going through a period of evolution rather than revolution. As everyone will need adapt to a change in circumstances of some kind. The impact of the current financial crisis is going to impact yet more for the foreseeable future.

Maybe once the fog lifts we will all be happy with a lot less in the way of material items and get more satisfaction from living a simpler less stressful life.
  • Hmmmm Ideal society. Assuming it's a concept rather than an actuality. I would look at the (approximately) 195 countries on the planet, and ask what I'd most like Britain to look/be like. i.e. ignoring items that can't be controlled, like the weather e.t.c.

Within Europe I'd probably go with the Scandinavians (excl. Iceland), Germany or Netherlands.
Outside Europe, Canada is nice. Maybe Australia* or NZ*.

    *haven't visited these two yet*.
