What would a IFA recommend?

I was really responding to the rather naive and obvious little intended trap that someone posted earlier: "Have you ever consulted an IFA ?" Answer "No." "Oh so you don't know anything about it then." To say that someone who has not actually consulted an IFA is not entitled to comment about them is like saying that someone cannot comment on sentencing policy unless they have been up in court, or that someone cannot comment on NHS cancer treatment and care unless they have had the grave misfortune to contract the disease.
But equally someone who had for example, had NHS cancer care would be in much better position to comment on the how good or bad it was than someone who had merely read about it.0 -
It would be interesting then to hear from any genuine posters who have in fact had experience of dealing with IFAs, and who would take issue with what I and others have said. IFAs will obviously defend their corner, but their view is hardly unbiased in this discussion. I have no axe to grind -- just saying what I think.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

I've dealt with an IFA in the past, and was impressed with both their knowledge of products available, and their explanation of the options available to me0

Why doesn't that surprise me ?No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

You tell me - someone gives you an honest opinion of their dealings with an IFA and you find that unusual because it doesn't fit in with your biased opinions.
My IFA worked very hard to make sure I understood what I was getting into. I have learned a lot from him over the years - granted I am still learning and don't think of myself as an expert. However I trust him and am quite happy to leave my investment in his hands.0 -

I'm a genuine poster, not an IFA, I'm an investor. You asked for experience of dealing with IFA's so here you are...........................
My IFA is superb, he spent a lot of time tailoring an investment plan to suit my wife's and I exposure to risk and expectations. He's available to speak to every day and evening if I need to. I get regular updates on my investments and have absolutely no problem whatsoever.
You however have clearly got a very heavy chip on both shoulders. Its a bit like saying that all teachers are bad, all policemen are corrupt, all politicians are liars, you have generalised and sterotyped the same with IFA's. You really must extricate your head from your anus. I too have no axe to grind with you --I'm just saying what I thinkLiquidity is when you look at your investment portfolio and **** your pants0 -

Well thats three George.;)
I have never defended our corner and im not sure anyone else has suggested all IFAs are fantastic, like any industry there are good and bad . The point most posters are trying to make is that you are wrong in basing your views of all IFAs on what you read in the Telegraph.0 -
WF are you an IFA?0
