Cheap holiday to Barcelona

Has anyone tried the Travelodge in Barcelona?
It says 2miles from the city centre, is it easy to get to and from? - They have rooms for around €35-45 per night, would be good if a cheap flight coincided with the cheap rooms!0 -
Don't drink on Las Ramblas. Prices there are ridiculous, but are quite good just two streets away. Beer was a bit expensive E2 for a half pint, but the wine was also E2 for a decent measure, coffee was E1. Dinner for two with a bottle of sparkling wine and both of us having desert, so two courses and not worrying about the expense was just under E50.
Most of the tourist atractions are Guadi buildings that you mainly want to see from the outside and the Parc Guell, so apart from the metro ticket - agree, T-10, there will not be much expense.
So, €50 for evening meal and maybe slightly less for lunch.
That's around €250 just for food for 3 days.
The best part of the Gaudi buildings is inside, especially Casa Batllo.
These were entrance fees this time last year PER PERSON:
La Sagrada Familia/Gaudi Museo €9.00 each, with €2 for the lift to the top
Casa Batllo €16.50
La Pedrera €8.00
Picasso Museo €6.00
Teleferic €9.00 (cable car across the harbour)
Montjuic Teleferic €7.20
So maybe the OP's friend needs to consider what they will be likely to do in Barcelona before booking the flights.0 -

E2 for a half pint of beer = £4 for a pint and is more in the touristy areas, expect to pay around £5 a pint in the touristy areas.0 -

I have stayed here 2n pre cruise(€20pn) and we went into the city both nights
It is in the middle of an industrial area and next to a conference center(fira2)
There are 2 bus(72,79) routes that go very near and it is a 10min walk to the train station(we used this) which is a 10min ride to the city. there is a mall near the station which has some restaurants but nothing by the hotel(gas station thats shuts early).
The bus(46) from the airport goes past on a road near the train station so you don't need a taxi from the airport if you plan properly.
The trains stop at night so about €8 from pla espania back to the hotel. the nearest subway I think is in a not so nice area and not checked the closest night bus.
Clean modern cheap hotel but a bit location challenged. seemed to be very save, there is another hotel close by.
One thing it is good for is a day trip to montserrat it is on that train line.
for transport use this site

for interactive of the hotel are this might work.

here is the google map for the hotel(A) and the train station(B not exact) walking

Thank you getmore4less
Hoping to go back to Barcelona for a few days as have only been on a day trip whilst on holiday in Spain, so much to see and so little time!
Have seen €10 nights advertised for the Spanish Travelodges, but suppose they will be few and far between. Will keep it in mind tho, thanks for the info0 -

They definately do the €10 rate we could have got it for our Jan 2/3 stay but decided to be in town with friends that would not do the travelodge.
As soon as they advertise the rate again get in quick.
At €10pn a couple of taxis are not a problem if out late, do carry a map and address if you don't speak spannish not all the taxi drivers know where it is allthough they will know the conference center.
Learning the BCN transport makes a trip much easier and cheaper the T10 is a bargain.0 -
A good tip to save money on eating is to eat your main meal at lunchtime as they do reasonable (note I didn't say cheap) set menus then...mm.. tapas..0

There are some lovely restaurants at Port Olympic, the tour of the Barcelona Stadium is interesting and about £100
-
We went on the cable cars upto the castle overlooking the city, great views and the cheapest beer we came across
And they kept bringing snacks with each round, the longer we stayed the better the snacks.
You can also take the cable car down to the marina, which again is a lovely place just to walk around. Bars overlooking either the boats or the beach.
We found the city to be beautiful. The Magic Fountain is quite good (and free) and all the Gaudi buildings accessable and again free to look at from the outside.
If there's a football fan in the party, you can look around the Olympic Stadium quite cheaply, but better still is the Neu Camp. The footy museum in there is spectacular, as is the ground. You can visit any day apart from match days. However, if a match is on, going watching Barcelona at home was a pleasure, the atmosphere was fantastic!'elf and safety guru0
