Hatchback car vibrates over 80

Hello,
I know I shouldn't really go above 70mph
but when I do, if I go over 80-85, I find that the steering vibrates as does the whole car (well, at least the front anyway where I'm sitting). It feels as though the front tyres are vibrating or uneven...
I don't recall this happening before, but this is the first mway driving I've done for a while where I haven't been stuck in slow moving traffic, so I was ale to put my foot down a little. Last April we had all four tyres replaced at Kwik Fit and they managed to fit the front nearside inside out (assymetrical tyres).
I wondered if this is a result of damage to something with the wheels/axle or something around that area? Or maybe something needs altering. Anyhow shouldn't this have been picked up by Kwik Fit when they did the tracking and fitting of the new tyres?
Oh in case it helps, the car is a P (97) Almera. It could do up to 90mph before without these vibrating probs (I never went above 90mph)
Cheeers,
spaceage

Sound like your tyres need to be re-balanced maybe? kwick fit do it for around a fiver or as they fitted them for free.0

80MPH? 90MPH?
You must be mad! Speed kills!!!
As for the car vibrating,my old Ford Fiesta did that at 65-70MPH
I cured it by never going above 60MPH. Worked a treat.
I don't know what my brand new KA is like at 80MPH. And I'll never know.0 -
Possible causes:
-wheels need balancing (standard procedure when new tyres are fitted)
-tyres worn unevenly
-brake discs warped. Does the brake pedal judder when slowing from those "dangerous" speeds?Happy chappy0 -
monysava's right your tyres need to be balanced or worst senario is they have gone egg shaped but very unlikely. nip into a tyre place will only take 10 mins to sort but don't let them sell you anything else though (brakes/shocks etc.) always get a second opinion from your regular garage!0

I had similar experience with my 940 Volvo although its the back wheels that were out of balance.A lot of folk dont think they need to balance them too but with modern cars it should be done.In my case it was vibration coming through whole car not just at front0

Are the wheel nuts tightened sufficiently??

PS you can't balance tyres, but you can balance wheels.Happy chappy0

Speed doesn't Kill. It's bad driving that kills - speaking on your phone, driving while tired/drunk. I suppose you think speed cameras are a good idea and they are perfect replacements for traffic police? :rotfl:
One of my dad's friends is a traffic cop with West Mercia, he has travelled at speeds of above 150mph in a Vauxhall Vectra, but he and the public were perfectly safe. It's only if you drive like a nutter that you start endangering people.
As for the remedy by going slower- that's stupid because if there is something wrong with my car, I want to know and get it sorted. I don't want to find out when a wheel falls off and my car goes flying off the carriageway.spacey

 I certainly hope so!!! I'll check in the morning when I can see something.
I'll pop by kwik fit and let them know about the vibrating. They have messed up enough already so I would be surprised if this was a muck up too.
Cheers all :beer:spacey

As the others have said, it's proberly the fact the wheels need balancing, just lead weights on the rims, but also check for bulges on the inner and outer sidewalls of the tyres as this can cause problems as well. if they are damaged replace immediately as this can cause a blow out.0
