Hello,
I am about to go onto broadband serivice with http://www.idnet.net.uk, a very good service and Free Technical Support, I am joining the Occasional Home Use service @ 2Mb with 2GB allowence plenty for what I need.
The good thing about these guys is you pay for your activation and you are then not tied into a 12 month contract.
Any how they have many modems on offer you can buy but I was going to buy from a local computer dealer at a much better price or through MISCO can any one reccomend a good USB modem, just a normal modem no built in firewall or anything of that nature.
Cheers
Jay

Well one is the Thomson/Alcatel Speedtouch 330 a solid reliable ADSL modem. You can pick one up on eBay for around a fiver, they're given away free by various ISP's when people sign up for BB packages so theres always a surplus for sale cheap.

If it can be afforded I would always go for a Modem/Router as it give the extra security of a built in hardware firewall. This on top of a software one gives peace of mind.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
