I can either go on the 7th returning on the 8th, or go on the 8th returing on the 9th, if that makes a different to prices.
Hotels in central London are much cheaper on a sunday night and there are a wealth of them on Laterooms for as little as £29 B&B.
  • maybe you can go to the theatre at 10am and get stand by tickets, some theatres do this. If you're a student standbys are £5 ish. Also if you are under 26 there is an offer for free tickets, do a search on web. ticketmaster does offers for certain shows as well, link I think:

yha might be cheapest option if you don't mind sharing unless you can find an offer, deveres venues were offering £19 rooms, may have some available. Check megatrain they may have cheap tickets

Also, most of the more popular shows have single tickets available so if you don't mind not sitting right next to each other you might increase your chance of getting day seats.
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...
  • Try joining couchsurfers or global free loaders for free accommodation. It costs nothing to join, and you can make a request for accommodation straight away. I am a member and regularly host London visitors to save them the extortionate cost of a hotel.
I have used them when I travelled around the world (I prefer global free loaders) with my two kids, and we have hosted at least a dozen different couples/groups over the past few years. If you want to ask me anything about this, please reply through the forum.
  • I live in London and would have to check if it cheaper to get a Zone 1(Central London) Travel Card or an Oyster Card.

I have had several emails (sorry I dumped them) from the website 'The Fatman' re hotel/theatre, have you tried local coach companies to see what they have any offers? Also local companies as opposed to national coach companies often do the fares cheaper. I originally come from the W Country and they are always running cheap trips to London.

If you buy a London Sightseeing bus ticket or similar these are generally for 24 hours, double check, but they always ran from the time you bought them. I bought them at lunchtime, which meant we could hope on and off all afternoon and use it the following morning (tip off from the guy selling them as he knew I wasn't a tourist!)

Check out 2 for 1 restaurents ie Ask, Bella Italia, Pizza Express, Pizza Hut and there are loads more about.

If you really want to do it on the cheap, make some sarnies before you leave home and freeze them, put them in a cool bag and they will slowly defrost for when you need them, you could add a small ice block if you wanted. Avoid the sandwich bars - far better going into Boots or similar for a 'meal deal, same with drinks, Superdrug etc!! Booze is expensive wherever you go!

It is expensive to live in London and not just for visitors but you can do lots with a bit of preparation and forethought. Lots of free things to do ie Science Museum, Coent Garden, Speakers Corner (Sun am), Bayswater Road etc etc etc.

    Hope you enjoy London.

I managed to get half price/BOGOF Grease tickets from daysoutguide - you need to have travelled by train though (but you can always buy a cheap local ticket to validate if you need to). We also got Zorro matinee from lastminute.com - they are always worth a look, & often the meal + show deals work out cheaper than the show only.
If you are happy to drive down, but don't want to drive into central London (who would!), park at an outer tube station & leave the car in their car park, & then use your Oyster card to get into the centre. A lot less hassle, & might work out cheaper than the train.
    Have fun!
