Thank elisebutt65 & leachyd, good to know someone is have a good experience with Abbey.
Feel for you shizzle (I soo want to say my dizzle...)
I have access to my experian report so I checked and they did a search 4 days after I applied online. While at the same time they told me they could not find my application and to try applying again.
It would be very good to hear from anyone who works for Abbey???
But for anyone else who is thinking about applying to Abbey. Either try to find another (better) provider or at least apply at the branch NOT via internet or phone.0 -
Have an Abbey CC and Bank Account. Never really had any problems with either. I've been an Abbey customer for all of my life and recently took up their offer of a credit card with balance transfer. Filled in the paper form that they sent me, returned it, sent them a few more details and the card arrived. Direct debit easily set up so i never miss a payment. Happy days. Don't know what everyone else has against them! - So there you go, some confidence for you!
I dont use them any more, applied for a card to BT in October 2007. very happy with speed but no card arrived, then 3 pins followed a month later with 3 cards and no statements till the following Feb2008, got internet account 3 days before 6 month 0% ran out. Talk about flying blind, cost a fortune in telephone calls and faxes, with the main excuse " this is not possible computer says so". Cancelled cards in May yet got another pin by post a week ago saying "Welcome to Abbey Credit Cards" HELP!!
Good Luck, the guy in charge is Portugese so there may be a communication problem.
B Gas you are forgiven.;)
P.S. I applied by post.ac's lovechild0 -
Abbey are a !!!!ing terrible and it only gets worse I'm afraid!
I applied online and went through the same process as you. They eventually found my application and said it would take 10-14 days for the agreement to arrive for me to sign. When it did eventually arrive it was an agreement for the wrong card. They said I could go into the bank, get the correct agreement and have them fax it over immediately. Two visits to the bank proved that this was not possible and I had to reapply at the bank. This was a very quick process and my card arrived within a week. They continued to send the agreement for the wrong card from the online application a further 3 times. All of which I ignored because I couldnt bare speaking to the useless staff on the phone.
My advice would be to wait if you can, obviously not possible if you need to make a balance transfer before interest starts on another card. If you cant wait go into the bank and get them to complete a form and fax it off right there and then. I'll never apply for a credit card online again if they have a bank locally. I'll also never use Abbey again, for anything.
I would have taken the card, used it then asked them for a copy of the origional signed agreement. As you well know they wouldn't have been able to provide one as they keep sending the wrong one, i'd then refuse to pay anything back0 -

I agree. Absolutely appalling customer service. I managed to get one but gave up completely trying to register for online account management after decending into a never ending loop of different call centres who all said I had to call a different number, ending up of couse with the number I first thought of.
I would rather pay interest than deal with that lot again.0 -
I did an app for this type of card with abbey and completely forgot about it after a couple of weeks, anyway about 5-6 months on and I get an agreement to sign asking for additional ID.0

Well called crabbey again today as still not received any paperwork that I am meant to get from underwriter and guess what…
They cannot find me (again) ohh...but I am on the database and they can see my name but nothing is attached to it.
Told me just to apply again at the branch. But when I said a credit search has already been done and I don’t want another no answer!!! :mad:0 -

when the card first came out I applied sent all forms back and called 4 times to be told card would be with me in 7 days. this was something like 4 months before I needed the card for a holiday, after the hol called again as still no card. the bloke said are you sure the other times you called they said the card was to be sent in 7 days as they had actually cancelled the application why because they never received it back.....very odd as they had told me 4 times everything was in order. sent a complaint letter and got a cheap space pen off them and then 4 weeks later a letter saying sorry about that you will receive a special gift and please apply again. guess what I didnt and will never again0

Have an even interesting (though unwanted) experience!
Applied online last Wednesday. Called last Friday just to see how things are. Was told "Congratulations, you've been approved today. We will be sending you the welcome pack within the next 5 to 7 days......." but he doesn't know my credit limit.
Nothing till today (also after reading this thread I got worried!) so called today. The person on the phone said, "ahh I see the your status has been changed last Friday and it is now showing up as Open For Appeal. meaning you have been declined, but you can appeal if you want to, here is the address for making the appeal". I said okay..... then after a while I wanted to ask them why am I declined? (surely I need that to appeal!)
Called back, this time someone said, your account has been opened last Friday.... wait what is your birthday again? ohhh yes yes it is opened last Friday. He suggested that the post should turn up in the next few days.
Am I confused! 2 acceptance, 1 rejection, in a day!0
