Does anyone take any notice of HIPS?
Most people are working too hard to make really decent money:eek:

I do, I wont look at anything less than a C in energy efficiency due to the volatility in the energy markets (ie. see 2008). Other than that I'll leave it to my formal survey.0

There's a few B's around, tend to be builds within the last 10-15 years in my limited experience. Never seen an A.0

I believe if is wasn't for the downturn in the housing market, HIPs would have been excepted into the the buyer and selling process, especially if it had contained the HCR. The EPC, although flawed, will become more important as energy prices rise. Time will tell.0

My current home would be rated really low, solid walls so no cavities to fill, with two boilers. Yet it is warmer and cheaper to heat than my previous home.
So for that reason I wouldn't bother looking at an energy rating.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I'm in the middle of buying a house and I looked through the HIP with the proverbial fine-tooth comb.0

            Possibly... depends how bad...
http://hamptons.co.uk/Property/BAT070498/PDF/BAT070498.pdf is an example of a nice property that caught my eye, but the energy graph is http://hamptons.co.uk/EPCGraph.aspx?PropertyRef=BAT070498&IWantTo=Buy&price=GBP%20725,000 (starting asking price for the property £995k (July 2008), now it has been reduced to £725k).
Looks like a very nice property, but the energy graphs suggest that it has walls of paper...

Wow, that is a beautiful house, with as you note - terrible HIP results. If you can afford it and also running costs x2 or even x3 and don't feel that's wasting money then I guess you should do it. That said, this is the MSE forum afterall.0
