the polo will be a bit on the expensive side for insurance if you are a young driver.
what about fiestas or corsas?...work permit granted!0 -
i'm a fiat forum member and anyone that chooses a punto deserves all the breakdowns that they get (many of them)
polo or micra, fiesta is ok but polo better built, better to drive and worth the extra if you can afford itthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

but be aware the polo is not without its faults either, but not as common or as mystifing as some of the faults you will get on a punto....work permit granted!0 -

I am also looking for a car in your price range. I have been looking at renault clios, peugeot 106 and 306 and polos. Fiestas and micras are very reliable but ugly lol. I wanted a punto was advised not to.0

I've seen the Punto's get very good reviews, are they really meant to be THAT unreliable? The original recommendation was a Ford Ka but that's meant to be horrendously unsafe in an accident.
Clio's, Corsa's and Micra's all seem to not be the safest of cars whereas the Punto seems to get a good rep on safety which to be honest is the biggest concern with a first car.
Would love a post '02 Fiesta or Polo but they seem to have held their value more than the others.0 -
As the other posters suggested, corsa/fiesta/106/micra are probably your best bet
ALl the above like any other car have faults but their a lot easier to deal with by a mechanic plus the parts are cheap and easy to purchase anywhere than the the Fiat Punto which does have a lot more bad points than good, if you are swayed to get a fiat punto though make sure you have the red key...
a fiat punto without the red key can turn out too be a very espensive car if you loose a key"One Man Can Make A difference" Michael Knight KNIGHTRIDER0 -

I had an R reg ford Fiesta when i learnt to drive...... then on a long straight bit of country road doing 50mph (limit was 60), swerved to avoid hitting a deeer which had just fumped down from a field...... I hit a tree.
I walked away with bruises... nastiest bruise was from the seat belt lol. All the hospital staff/ paramedics were amazed!
I have a special place in my heart for ford fiesta's after this!DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz
