Airbus A380-is it worth travelling to London for?

I live in the Midlands and am going to Dubai later this year for 2 weeks visiting friends.
Flying with Emirates economy. Price the same from Birmingham as it is from Heathrow.
Birmingham is a walk to local train station, 20 minute train ride, £1.90 return, .
Heathrow is a drive of 80minutes, petrol plus parking cost. Or train travel going into and out of london.
Is it worth the extra cost and time to experience the Airbus 380 for the flight instead of the Boeing 777? Is the Airbus above and beyond?

Wouldnt bother. Cattle class is cattle class no matter what. Any extra space is biased toward premium passengers.0

Also worth remembering there are 5 flights a day and the A380 is only used on one of them.0

You could always say that you've experienced a flight on the biggest commercial airliner in the world
didn't people once love to experience Concorde? okay that was supersonic, but another milestone for some would be the A380
and I'm biased because I've been involved in the manufacture of some of that plane too

The A380 is nice but for you it really isn't worth the extra effort and cost. The facilities in economy are the same, so it would really only be to go on the flash new plane.
And you'd be really gutted if it went tech that day and they sent a 777 instead...0 -
Yep, was going to say exactly this:omelette451 wrote: »And you'd be really gutted if it went tech that day and they sent a 777 instead...

We always go with emirates from birmingham, yes they are smaller planes, but always been a really nice flight!0

Perhaps do LHR-DXB A380 and DXB-BHX on emirates or vice versa depending on how the flight timings suit you.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Unlike Singapore Airlines and their A380s, the Emirates A380s have the same standard of economy seating in them as the main fleet.
If you want the novelty of travelling on an A380, then go for it as we all have things that we'd like to do for the sake of it! (I would probably be tempted myself) If not, I'd stick to the Birmingham flights.0 -
Hadn't thought about it being replaced at last minute.
Thanks for all the tips, especially the reassurance that Emirates A380 economy isn't above and beyond. Not worth it then for me...novelty factor isn't high enough for me for the extra time and money.
Shoppaholic-will certainly enjoy the flight from BHX it seems0 -
I'm sure it will be no different from Birmingham, just normally a smaller plane,so only business class available no first class cabin, won't make any difference if travelling in ecomony.0
