I was wondering anybody have a current account with Northern Rock. What are your experiences of having them? Is it good (before and after the nationalisation)? I'm asking this as there's no thread/topic about it at all.
I didn't know they offer a current account. Thought they were financial institution specialising in savings and mortagages. Don't know why they categorised it a 'savings'.
How strict is the criteria for a current account? They don't offer a basic bank account, so when I get refused, it will be nothing.

You could have downloaded it from here: http://www.northernrock.co.uk/downloads/ca_appform.pdf insteadWell you get a ATM card and that is subject to status.
ATM card is a cash card. Not a debit card. Don't understand why the cards are subject to status. By the way, if you see the link above, they offer debit cards with their bank account.0 -
Yes I know. That's why I can't understand why they are subject to status.0

ATM card are for under 18's anyway according to the link/application form.
On this website (under the sectino 'taking money out) http://www.northernrock.co.uk/savings/branch-and-postal-accounts/current-account/using-this-account/, it says ATM cards are Chip & PIN enabled. Now therer is conflicting information. Claims to be a debit card now...0 -

The account terms and conditions make it clear that Northern Rock issues Visa debit cards. It will be "subject to status" because if they don't think you are fit to have one you will only get an ATM card instead.

Those T&Cs are worrying. No BACS transfers out?0

Looks like they are quite strict with their credit scoring. Rather open a current account (which comes with a debit card as standard) or basic account (which comes with a debit card or cash card as standard depending on bank) with the high street banks instead.
Strange that there are no BACS transfers out though.
Withdraw limit is only £250 instead of the standard £300.
By the way, not applying for one. But just interested on what you guys think of the current account.0
