take your tenancy agreement to Shelter and ask them if it contains a 6 month break clause - that is your only hope of an early release
look at it this way - if you had signed a 12 month agreement and the landlord suddenly said after a few months "out you go - how would you feel ? a tenancy agreement is a legally binding contract
why not talk to the woman about not having her bloke staying quite so often ?0 -

Will dig it out and have a look, and I cant ask that of her can I? She will say no, and I'll have to live the rest of the 8 months even more uncomfortably. She really isnt the type to do what anyone asks unless mummy says so and gives her some money. Yeah she is one of those types of girls. Total snobbery.
Will take the contract to my dad too, he is quite good at this stuff, just dont get to see him often etc. So there might still be hope,0 -
Well, you could always get a bucket to puke into. That would be one problem solved. Remember and wash it out asap though.
Second suggestion...cooking? Just get on with it. Better still find a girlfriend and you can either stay over and cook at her place sometimes or she can act as moral support while you cook at your place.
Third suggestion. Ask her if you can buy a new hoover and get the washing machine and radiator fixed instead of paying rent. (Make sure you still get a rent receipt in the unlikely event of her agreeing to this....) If it doesn't happen, then start ostentatiously washing your clothes in the bath and draping them over all the working radiators round the rest of the flat to dry.
Fourth suggestion. Fix the wall NOW before anyone notices.
Last. Get used to the flat. It's cheap and there's worse. You could have flatmates that steal all your stuff, puke in your room, practice strange religeous rites in the bathroom at 2am.. Use the time to make some enquiries, find some pals that might be looking for a flatmate soon and save up some cash towards the deposit on a better flat.Val.0 -

Well, I'm 19 and have been in my new "home" for around 3/4 months now and am getting fed up with the place. Long story short I had to leave my mums house and get my own place when I was 18, found a place in a rush and got my deposit sorted and moved in. Didnt have any time to really resarch being a tenant...hell or anything about the adult world. They really do teach utter c**p at school, I mean I could tell you how fast a golf ball could be shot through a small child and how much power you would need for it but i dont understand anything about credit scores, moving in, tenant rights, how to look after ones self etc etc. Yes Im sure we all want to shoot a small child with a golf ball, but no one can do it if they have no place to live or no money! Correct?
i agree mate, they teach zero life skills at school, thank god this place exists
Anyway, Enough about that. Like I said I moved out around 3/4 months ago now into a £281 PCM (bills are around £110 per 3 months) which takes a little chunk out of my after tax £900 salery. Now, for me to move onwards and upwards in my life i need a nicer place to live. £320 per month and then food on top? thats not bad mate. Somewhere were i come home from work and dont go straight to my room as I dont want to sit on the arm of the single 2 seater sofa in the stonned floored living room with my house mate (incidently the landlords daughter - to play a part later) and her non-electric-paying-staying-around-all-the-time-boyfriend *phew*. Thanks, but no thanks.
mate rule number one is only share with a member of the opposite sex if it shares your bed or its your sibling (never both), although its a shame this isnt a house with your own front room, but that would be a lot more in rent.
And like any 19 teen-man, Im going to blame being unhealthy entirely on the fact that I feel uncomfortable cooking in the kitchen with those two always 3 meters away. goosebury is a crap fruit at the best of times mate, but doesnt junk food bung you up a bit? it used to with me when i was working 60 hours a week and living out the staff canteen Also the toilet is downstairs....I dont want to have to get changed to go for a waz incase I meet house mate on the way down. invest in a cheap slobby pair of tracky pants or shorts, keep them at the end of the bed and bob is your uncle- not ideal but a solution of sorts And trying to run to the toilet from the top of the stairs before being sick is a feat I'm yet to master. you dont mean literally surely? Have to carry a glass down with me incase I dont reach it in time. Pint anyone? erm.....nope, although i know the feeling, southern comfort loves me but my bladder hates it
God I side track..... OKAY, important stuff now. I signed a 12-month agreement with a £250 deposit, and when I first got the place (Can I still move out now, and if I can do i get my deposit/part of it or not) probably not early unless they let you end agreement early, which i doubt they will I was told it was to be painted (my room that is) i take it you didnt have time to hang around and say 'i'll move in when its done then'' to cover some of the marks the previous tenent of the room made with hair spray and a lighter 2 months down the line and the landlords daughter decided she was too stressed to do it, and I ended up doing in. mate quick tip- wilkinsons is amazing for paint Now, I dont mind that at all, bit of decorating, bit of fun. I brought some new shelves too, as the room had none! And a pot of red paint to get some colour into the room ooo and a wall bracket for my telly. Now, I tried to put the wall bracket and tv mount up....unsuccesfully and now lies around 15 holes in varoius places in the walls, with 1 of the holes doing a littttle bit of damage, some plasta has came away etc (what effect is this to have on said deposit if i can get it back?)....yeah >_> i suck at DIY.
mate some wall mounts are difficult to put up, i have one for an lcd that was a pain in the neck, the plaster situation wont help the deposit
Also, my radiator is now not working...what can I do about that? Can I get money off my monthly rent or something seen as im not using that electric? The washing machine hasnt worked since I moved in, the fire alarm in my room doesnt work, the one on the landing keeps beeping and there is no damned HOOVER!! ARggh! <-- Seen as the landlords daughter is "the boss" I have asked her if we can get the washing machine fixed, and told her about my radiator and fire alarm but nothing....! speak to the landlord directly yourself, organ grinder or monkey? :rotfl:
Anyway, so after all that the main question is "Can I terminate my 12 month contract (considering the above problems), how much notice do I have to give, do I get my deposit back and what about the "damage" to the property I have made?" i would say do your best to sort stuff out, invest in a hoover (cheap cylinder one) and save for a deposit for elsewhere over the next 8 months
Thanks to anyone who read even part of this epic essay, I like to write like this, what can I say. More threads are soon to follow, this new kid on the block doesnt have a bloody clue even thou he has 3 A-Levels, 10 GCSE's at A or B. They really teach you rubbish at school...! mate it doesnt stop me, if you are avoiding the couple from hell this place can get terribly addictive
CHeers!things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then
