My R reg Renault Clio is a rust bucket, the cills are rotting (one had to be repaired to get through the MOT) the area where the suspension joins the body of the car had to be welded and under the doors are rusting. I haven't had a proper look but i suspect the arches are begining to go too.

Bring on August when car shopping can begin. :D

I have a 7 year old Audi with not a mark of rust on her. Her bodywork isn't looked after all that well either. It's not been washed in months. :o I can't remember the last time I saw a rusty Audi.

My sister has a Mercedes E300 and that's terrible for rusting. They've had the front wings resprayed twice.

My next door neighbour has a 2000W Merc Estate, the rear wheel arches are almost falling away with rust.

My other neighbour has a 1998R Nissan Primera it is like brand new, no rust anywhere.

The worst cars for rust in general terms seem to be Fords, mainly Fiesta's and KA's.
• PSA Peugeot/Citroen are excellent, especially in metallic colours and still look excellent 10 years later.

E.g. sold my 12year old xantia last year and no rust anywhere. At the front of the bonnet there was a large stonechip to bare metal- it did not get any worse in the 4 years i owned the car despite remaining to the bare metal.

My current Xsara again no rust at all on the bodywork (and i cant see none underneath) and the pearlescent paint shines very well despite not being washes since lat summer. Also in my experience Hondas from the mid 1990s onwards are good too.

Re the worst Mercedes are terrible esp e-class, some fords not to clever either.

• Mercedes stopped using galvanised steel in the mid nineties to cut costs and did'nt start using it again until 2003 - I was told this by a guy who worked for Mercedes processing the faulty bodywork claims.
