Best & worst cars for corrosion

vws, bmw, merc, ford all seem pretty rusty to me0

You can't go wrong with German - VW, BMW, Mercedes - Pretty much rust free.
Ford and Vauxhall aren't so good.0 -
Audi i think were the first people to start galvanising their cars. But from 1999 onwards most of the mainstream brands should be ok, german would probably be the best bet tho. Most will only get rust patches where there has been damage that not been repaired properly.0

have a closer look at some mercs then, e class is a rust bucket, all merc vans rust like nothing else on the planet and the slk and clk are also covered in rust, my mate has a clk230 convertible, the car has always been garaged and does very low miles but every metal panel has rust bubbling through it....work permit granted!0 -

i know of a merc slk that was needing welding to the front inner wings at 5 years old due to rust!...work permit granted!0 -
we have vws that are not 10 years old rusting away here0

Ford Ka's seem to rust long before their time.0

Dont forget that Fiat addressed the rust issue by galvanising from around 1994 onwards.
This is just the panels though - cills are just as prone as others.
On another note - I saw a very rusty CLK with patch rust on doors, boot, bonnet, doors and tailgate - I think the CLK is an exception to the range. The vans only rust as the white paint application on early Vitos was not to car grade (see fewer rusty Vitos than Transits!)
Oh, and you will never see a rusty front wing on a Clio from 1998 onwards!Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.0 -

Mercs before about 2003 are rustbuckets. I should know, I have one0
