Awww, some nice ideas here! :j
The most romantic thing you can give is yourself........make some time for each other!
Try:
Vouchers for stuff e.g 1 free massage, doing the dishes for a week / month etc.
A nice photo album or frame with pics of you from during your time together (also good to find a nice pic for a locket - there are some cheap but quite nice silver ones from places like argos)
Good deals on booze this time of year - maybe a nice glass of something in front of a roaring fire.....
HTH someone!

Remember the MoneySaving mantras!
IF YOU'RE SKINT......
Do I need it? Can I afford it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?
IF YOU'RE NOT SKINT......
Will I use it? Is it worth it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?0 -
stec00 wrote:Any of the ladies out there have any suggestions for type of perfume to buy? Girlfriend wants some apparently but I'm completely clueless about what to get...
There are always lots of freebie samples posted on MSE. You could send off for them and present them all in a nicely decorated box with the suggestion that she can try them and you can decide together which smell best on her, and you will then get her some. Saves an expensive mistake.
Alternatively, some people like to stick to the same perfume, their own 'signature scent'. You could ask her close friends/family what she likes/wears - if you don't already know!!!"Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience." Anon.0 -
THis is a great thread, but it's over 3 years old, so jsut bumping back up to see if anyone has any more recent links, websites and ideas?0

This is an old thread but as it is in this week's email I thought I would be ok adding an update. I have made a few present poem boxes over the years which can be as cheap or as expensive as you want. The latest was for my mum's retirement and is included here as an example.
At last you're retired;
no longer required
to work and work each day
to earn an honest pay.
So here is a present
I hope you find pleasant,
to say how proud I am.
to haveyouas my mam.
Now that you are older
you'll find you get colder
one will help in stopping
the temperature dropping
(Open present one) draught excluder
The next is not for you
but is yours, strange but true!
Whatever could it be?
Open 2 and you will see.
(A book full of questions about her life for her to fill in and give back to me. Bought online but am sure you could make one)
Do you ever forget
the name of those you've met?
Open the third to find
medicine for your mind
(Senior moment mints)
Staying on that subject
here's another object
to show it's not just you
who hasn't got a clue.
(Book of big funny mistakes made by others called 1000 senior moments)
When petrol gets too dear
and you need "out of here"
the fifth is what you need
I hope you are agreed
(Bus pass holder)
The next is to replace
something you have misplaced
so open number six
to find a needed fix
(Bag of marbles)
another sign of age
you cannot read a page
because the texts too small
here's seven to solve all
(Light up magnifying glass)
when you find you're bursting
and you cannot hold it in,
you find you start to drip;
with 8 you must equip!
(Joke incontinence knickers)
if your bones start to creak
or if your legs get weak
the ninth will save the day
and help you on your way.
(Inflatable walking stick)
The next is something nice
in order to entice
forgiveness of my wit;
I don't want to be hit!
so open number ten
and please forgive me when
a joke I do imply;
don't let this one die!!!
Grow your own bonsai, I had bought her a bonsai tree in the past which she loved but which sadly died)
we're nearly at the end,
I hope you're still my friend!
Although I like to jest
I think you are the best
Eleven is to show
mornings can now be slow
there's no alarm to set
has that fact sunk in yet?
(CD clock with jokey quote about retirement)
Now this rhyme has ended
I hope I've not offended!
I tried to show clearly
that I love you dearly.
