Cheap Hoilidays to Egypt?

Hi, now that that bomb has just gone off in Cairo is it safe to travel to Egypt? Does anyone know if this is the start of something alot bigger or does it seem to be a one off? (I know its a bit like fortune telling but bear with me they maybe someone out there with local knowledge!)

Also Im thinking that now maybe the best time to book as prices will be a little cheaper due to this happening (every cloud an all that!) but not sure whether to risk it as Egypt has had its fair share of bombings and shooting in the past few years.

Any thoughts?

Of course my sympathys go out to anyone caught up in this latest episode (so please dont have a go for asking the question!)

Thanks for that, it doesnt make for good reading does it!!!

To be honest, it wouldn't worry me at all - unless the FCO advised against all unnecessary travel but I do appreciate that people view risk differently.

I hear what your saying but I want to go on holiday to relax and not to have any worries so will give it a miss I think.

As I can sense that you are a little paranoid, I'd just like to point out..... so has the UK. ;)

  • To my knowledge I dont remember 64 tourists being shot and killed whilst sight seeing around London like there was in Egypt in the 1990's whilst they were looking at the pyramids or having my hotel blown up like those in Sharm El Sheikh a few years ago.

Yes we have had some bombings and shootings in Britian but tourists were not targeted. Look at my screen name and take a guess what I do for a living.
If you think Im scared of danger think again, as I said before - I go on holiday to relax, not to put my family in harms way!

So if you think thats paranoid then yes GUILTY AS CHARGED - I'm paraniod.:p

At least get your facts straight before commenting on what might or might not constitute a risk - the murder of all the tourists was at Hatshepsut's temple , which is close to the Valley of the Kings on the west bank of LUXOR!
Hundreds of miles away from Cairo:rolleyes: .
I would think it more likely to be kicked in the head by a camel than be caught up in terrorism.
We are off for a tour of Luxor, Cairo and Sharm in 7 weeks and of course we will be careful - we spent 8 years living in RAF Germany, checking underneath our cars everyday for IRA bombs.
You can either live your life scared , after all you could die horribly at home, no need to go abroad to be taken out by a drunk driver or an idiot with a knife - or you can just live your life normally.
What if the car crashed on the way to the airport, what of the plane crashed etc. etc. infinitum.
