Ford own Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar and Aston Martin etc, but I think you'll find they're not exactly the same cars.

And if one of the above were scratched I would use sikkens ;)

Wilkinson's own brand is on every wall in my house - no problems
    I haven't got one!
  • Personally, i would always go for Crown paint for any interior work, and Sandtex for any exterior work...ive used on many occasions, and never had a problem.

U should never buy cheap/economy paint, you just end up using several times as much to get the opacity, and the finish and adhesion is also usually of inferior quality.

So perhaps there is a difference between Leyland and Johnstones then. I've never used Johnstones and don't intend to.
I would agree that there is a difference between the two.
Both are manufactured by Kalon. The Johnstone's brand generally seems to be of slightly higher quality - especially when comparing the Gloss Finish - and there's a wider range of products available.
However, the Leyland exterior emulsion - 'Truguard', is very good. Leyland is around 10% cheaper than the Johnstone's equivalents.

(calmgirls hubby here) Go to your local Painters and decoraters trade store not b&q or Wilko's or type Speak to the guy behind the counter tell him what you want and listen to his advice. You will pay a little bit more also ask him about advice on preperation of the surface normally these guys are ex painters and know what they are talking about if you live anywhere near carmarthen then try (01267 238 099) the smaller guys relly on repeat custom to pay their bills and wont give bad advice.
    Money's too tight to mention!!!
  • I've got a pair of professional painters doing my hall/stairs at the moment (I know, hardly money saving but if you saw the height of the ceiling you have to get to from a ladder on the stairs you'd understand why I'm not DIYing). They were very clear that I should buy Dulux Trade....said anything else, including the standard Dulux stuff, is <delete expletive> for DIYers.

Must admit that it's eye-wateringly expensive though...
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

I worked for a while doing IT at the huge plant at Slough where they make Dulux. Some of the swats there advised that their trade paint was far superior to the standard kind of stuff you get in DIY stores.
