Hi there,
after a store cupboard hoarding frenzy, I realised the importance of putting things in boxes with lids on, and discovered 3 x 1kg bags of rice which have definately been nibbled by mice.
The hole is big enough for them to have gotten in, and as mice are incontinent, I'm going to have to conclude that the rice is now not fit for food.:o
So I just wondered if people could think of anything useful, but non-foody to do with 3 kg of white long grain rice!!!
Thanks in advance,
Weezl x

Oh, was that you offering non food rice on cardiff freecycle? I saw that post and wondered why it couldn't be used (didn't read the whole post, just saw the title). Now I know!
If mice have been weeing and pooing in it, I'm not sure I'd want to use it for heat bags or use in something for children. Probably better to just throw it away.0 -
Yes your right gigervamp, never thought about it properly, the bird option suggested by some-one is still good though.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0

If you drop a mobile phone in water or spill a drink on your keyboard then put in in a tub or plastic bag with a load of uncooked rice and it absorbs all of the moisture out and it should work again.
Probably not a solution to your problem but I think it's an interesting use!0 -
I use old rice for baking pastry blind - you put greaseproof or baking paper between the pastry & rice anyway, so contamination shouldn't be a problem. I know this is food-related, but you don't eat the rice iykwim!July 2024 GC £0.00/£400

You could use it to fill long tubes of fabric to use as draught excluders at the bottom of doors.0
